It's so amazingly good I am am going to have to say SOUKYUGURENTAI again.....This game gets the eye candy award for sure, a must for graphics tarts.....and it's also one of the best shooters on the system. Was playing this the other day and it still impresses me no end.

I just played Soukyugurentai again recently as well and It is just a satifying game on many levels. The visuals for sure are up there. The different layers it uses are truely awsome ^_^

Panzer Dragoon Saga - 3D FMV, Gameplay
Dragon Force - on beautiful 2D spirte capacity
Super Tempo - luscious 2D on level of Rayman
Virtua Fighter II - wonderful smooth 3D
Burning Rangers - Loved the transparencies, I might be the only one.

for best looking saturn game surely Virtua Cop 2 deserves a nod, an astounding job they did on that conversion.

For me, I'd say NiGHTS. That was the game that sold me on the system.
It really shines for 2d, I think. Street Fighter Alpha, Albert Odyssey, Magic Knight Rayearth... beautiful games.

Burning Rangers had brilliant lighting and transparency effects, but this came at the cost of speed and resolution (then again, if you learn how Sonic Team achieved the flames in particular you can forgive the odd large pixel here and there). On the other hand, I prefer Sonic R for having similar quality graphics without the slowdown or breakup, even if the frame rate is controlled by a very clever method of disabling the fade-in when things get too hectic on-screen. If you're looking for a great example of high polygon counts, solid refresh rate and various "background" programming techniques not immediately noticeable then I'd recommend you check out Dead Or Alive over Virtua Fighter 2. Sure, both are incredible Model 2 conversions that run at 60fps with detailed, high resolution models and VDP2-reliant stages, yet somehow Team Ninja edges out AM2's better-known effort to deliver a superior product... and I still can't believe there's a game on the Saturn capable of knocking Yu Suzuki's finest 32-bit era console work into second place that wasn't picked up for a domestic release over here by Sega or anyone else, for that matter! In terms of purely 2D gaming, can you decide between Capcom's later 4Mb RAM upgrade compatible titles?
P.S. On the subject of Quake, it sure doesn't pull every proverbial punch the Saturn is capable of at once, but I seriously doubt many programmers could have done better than Lobotomy... or even come close, as id's own doomed effort proves (no pun intended, by the way)!

Just looking at in-game graphics (and NOTHING else, FMV's are no fun anyway) concerning games I have played my list reads as follows (in no particular order):
Deep Fear In the Hunt Panzer Dragoon Zwei Wachenröder Last Bronx Night Warriors Story of Thor 2 Exhumed (except for most of the enemies)
Concerning other aspects, such as aesthetical value, in addition to graphics from a more "technical" angle, other games might claim a high rating (even though I have to say many of the games I just mentioned are beautifully designed as well). I like Digital Pinball for example even though it's graphics are quite simple, and Dragon Force is a feast for the eyes. Burning Rangers has its really breathtaking moments though sometimes laughable low-res graphics and slow-downs and Sega Rally is rough but still easy on the eyes.
In the Hunt might actually count as more of an aesthetically good-looking game when I come to think of it, I like the comic-book style of graphics (just like the case of Metal Slug, for obvious reasons). I don't think its very technically advanced, is it? I mean, it's a 1993 arcade game, probably developed in 1992. The Saturn can handle better than that. Still weird it has all those slow-downs... The Saturn is known for its 2D capacities as far as I've heard.
I have a dark horse for you as well: Sky Target! I've already mentioned in some other thread that I find it underrated and EXTREMELY entertaining at times, but I also have to say the planes look really cool most of the time during gameplay. Not the enemy crafts, but the protagonist's. The bosses aren't that ugly either. When you see the little guy waving the "clear for take-off"-flag in the beginning of each mission I always think of the gross person-monster-demons changing tires in Daytona. They're so ugly, blocky and horrible that I laugh and cry and wet my pants and feel like dying at the same time. Comparing with that; Sky Target is a graphical masterpiece. And actually not much worse looking than Panzer Dragoon.
Have to mention, lastly, that I can only list games that I have played myself. I'd guess PDS and SF3 is great looking, maybe Albert's Odyssey too, but I can't know for sure so until I get my hands on one of them they're irrelevant.

Agreed in Scorcher, it looks great but feels unfinished and plays like crap

Was there a single game published by Scavenger that played as good as it looked? Sub Terrania, A+M+O+K and Scorcher were effectively little more than glorified tech demos that became only half as good when you actually took control of them! Still, this is a discussion about the best-looking Saturn titles and NOT just the gameplay side...

Runners up; Last Bronx, Bulk Slash Dead OR Alive, Sega Rally, Sonic R, Virtual On, Enemy Zero, Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Manx TT, Athlete Kings
2d wise, Metal Slug, X-Men vs Streetfighter, Astra Superstars, Vampire Savior, Samuri Spirites 4 and Marvel Superheroes

Saturn had the Best 32 Bit Graphics at the time, When I first got my Saturn i was surprised on how good VF 2 looked, but When I played a game like Tekken or Soul Blade I went " Oh well, the Gameplay makes up for it " If the Saturn would have stayed around Longer it would have came up with alot of great looking games, As for the best looking Saturn game I would have to go with VF 2, Love the game to bits I agree Tekken and Tekken 2 were graphically inferior to Virtua Fighter 2 but Tekken 3 was a masterpiece and far outshines anything on the Saturn. Sega Rally still looks good today.

I'd have to say Exhumed, Quake and Duke Nukem. Despite a few glitches (mostly on Quake) those look superb and run smoothly.
I think AMOK looks pretty cool too and has one of the most interesting graphics engines I've seen.
Outrun is probably my favourite looking 2d game on the Saturn. The graphics are really simple but are full of colour and the each area looks awesome.
What other games run in high res apart from VF2?
