I thought this would be a bit of fun...
As some of you may know, I have recently cut down on my large Shmup collection. There are still a few that I have never owned so I thought I'd create this to see which are the most popular shmups on the Saturn. Hopefully this will show some sort of interesting list of what people consider to be the top shmups to own on the system.
I copied the list from Racketboy's list, although I left off a few that I didn't think really needed to be on there. Let me know if I have missed your favourite and I will adjust it.
To make it more interesting than just your number one game you can pick your top 5, this should level out the results and mean three or four games don't have every single vote. Hopefully it will make the results more interesting. If you only like three shmups on the system then just pick three, but it is a maximum of five.

There are more here I've not played than I realised. Always wanted to play Steam Hearts but never found a working copy! Don't really want to buy it in case some customs officer takes offence to it or something

Nice. Some of our faves crossed over here. However, I picked my 5 absolute faves! In order: 1. Battle Garegga 2. Soukyugurentai 3. Batsugun 4. Hyper Duel 5. Tiger II Plus Yes. I like Tiger II that much. - If I had to do runner ups, it would run like: 6. Thunderforce V 7. Strikers 1945 II 8. Shienryu 9. Guardian Force 10. Salamander DX Pack Honorable mention: X-Multiply (& Image Fight)

1. Layer Section 2. Parodius Series 3. Fantasy Zone 4. Darius Gaiden 5. Game Tendoku.
Ask me again in a few weeks and that order will change.

Too many great games. My favorite is whatever I was playing last as I always seem to find something new to appreciate.
four in no order
Sengoku Blade Hyper Duel Garegga Batsugun
Not sure on a fifth.
Parodius should be the separate titles and not the series as a job lot.

My 5, in no particular order were:
Batsugun Battle Garegga Dodonpachi Parodius Hyper Duel
I am growing more and more fond of Battle Garegga, despite being awful at it, I am too much of a hoarder and can't help but collect every power up I see.
Games I would have liked to include but didn't quite make it are Shienryu, Metal Black, Tiger II & one of the Strikers games.

Perhaps one day I'll find an affordable copy of Batsugun or Battle Garegga.. Or not

1-Radiant Silvergun 2-Blast Wind 3-Hyper Duel 4-Soukyugurentai (Otokuyo version is the one I own) 5-Battle Garegga
Number 6 would probably have been Darius Gaiden (probably a nostalgia thing though as it was my first game on the system). I have many that I haven't given enough time though, like Twin Cobra II or Batsugun, but I will someday - though just looking at my top 5, I feel like playing those again!

Parodius should be the separate titles and not the series as a job lot. Good shout. I agree with this. Games where the titles are inherently part of ONE disc, can be listed as a single title (i.e. Salamander Deluxe has THREE games one it, as does Wonder 3 etc). However, Parodius had THREE distinctive releases, of which only ONE contained 2x games. The other TWO titles are completely separate, and are sequels. This, is what we call in the industry: cheating! It's no different from similar cheating by stating "The Strikers series" as one choice or "The Donpachi series". Nope. They have (correctly) separate entries. Can you fix this please Mr Blah? Perhaps 3x members will have to rethink their top 5 as a consequence (i.e. You, Davyk & someone else!) You have to play fair...

Certainly, I did consider this but I just copied the Racketboy list to save time, which has them listed together. It's a valid point though, I wouldn't put the Layer Sections, Thunder Forces or Strikers togther.
I will sort this now, anyone that voted Parodius will have to revote for their fifth choice.
Edit: Sorry I didn't reply when you said it, dquick, I missed that sentence when I read your post for some reason.

Agreed re Parodius - the 3rd one (Oshaberi aka Chatting) is my favourite.
