I thought the same thing and bought it despite NGN telling me I was making a mistake. It really is as bad as he'll tell you. It just plays badly, it looks pretty ugly and there is something wrong about it. NGN will no doubt explain it better than I can. Hahahaha! I always try and do my bit for the good of the universe vs good old Skull Fang! I'll back track and see if I can find any previous posts. Saves me typing it all out again, eh?

NGNinja, what's your take on the polarizing Kyukyuuoko (sic) Tiger II Plus?

Well, we have a clear winner by the looks of it, over half of us picked Battle Garegga as one of our top 5. Also most of the expected games are in the next few spots.
The only real surprise for me is Sengoku Blade getting 2 votes. Not that I have a problem with the game but I didn't expect it to be in anyone's top 5.

I love Sengoku Blade, my favourite Psikyo game. I love the look of the game and the horizontal scrolling gives it a different flavour, just doesn't feel as generic to me as some of Psikyo's other efforts.

I can't say that Sengoku Blade surprises me anywhere NEAR as much as some of the other titles that, both did and didn't, make the cut into PPL's 'top 5' One's that surprised me that did make someone's top 5! Cho Aniki Darius II Dezaemon 2 Macross Sol Divide (pleasantly surprised, as I quite like this one myself if I'm honest!) Steam Heart's One's that surprised me that didn't make anyone's top 5!! Guardian Force (super underrated, really good shmup!) Gun Frontier (Not overrated, but generally, very well liked) Image Fight/X-Multiply (X-Multiply is a masterpiece in Hori-shooting!) Metal Black (Again, not overrated, but generally, well liked) Salamander Deluxe Pack (A pack of 2/3 amazing classic shmups. Salamander 2 for Gods sake!!) Shienryu (Probably a bit too underrated. It's an excellent shmup. Just... outside my top 5) That's my take on some of the results thus far Obviously, I'm VERY happy that Battle Garegga is No.1... because, as I've said all along... IT IS!

Aren't most of the surprising ones Yart being... Yart? I agree with Metal Black and Shienryu, it really was close between those two and Sexy Parodius (which I did pick). I have nothing against Sengoku Blade, I enjoyed my time with that game, I just didn't expect it to get multiple votes I suppose.

I have selected three off the list, these games are the only ones I have played and the only ones I currently own: - Layer Section / Galactic Attack. This is my favourite as I seem to get more enjoyment out of it for some reason. - Parodius Da. I assume this is the only that was released in PAL region with 2 games? This was fun, but can be frustrating due to its difficulty (Or I am just crap) - Darius Gaiden. How often do you get to shoot robotic fish? This game is great, but it's my least favourite of the three I own.

I can actually list all of the Shmups I have played in my life time which isn't a whole lot. A part from the three I have listed already; Gynoug, Fantasy Zone, Aero Blasters, and probably one more which I know for sure did not contain fish

Metal Black would possibly be in my top ten, simply because the soundtrack is amazing, but as a game I find it slightly lacking.

..come on guys, show some love for TSS! I can't. It's like a shooter-cum-puzzler affair which relies on 2P's (CPU or Human) to work, and it just doesn't appeal to me at all (Note: I didn't say "shooting-cum-guzzler", just before someone picks up on that)
