Hello!
I got a Saturn a few months ago, and it is already one of my favourite consoles. I love the design of the console, and the controller is the best controller I have ever used. I only have a small handful of games so far - Alien Trilogy, Mr Bones, Enemy Zero, and Shinobi X - but I love every single one.
I am looking to invest in some more games. Perhaps spending around 100 euros (£80 in UK money and maybe around $100?). Any recommendations?
My main dislikes are Shoot em ups and most JRPGs (I have disliked almost all I have played, bar a few); although I tend to also avoid fighting and racing games too, because I am terrible at them. I don't mind those latter two genres though, but they have to be fairly accessible for a player who is generally quite naff at those types of games.
Hopefully I'll get more involved with this community as I get more involved with my Saturn!

Errr if you don't like fighting games or schmups you'll be missing out on a fair bit of Saturn's gems...
Having said that there are plenty of other games out there for the Saturn: ( some of my favorite titles that would not qualify as fighter ,schmup or jrpg )
* Bomberman ( really one of the best versions of this game out there ) * Worms ( prefer to play this title on the pc, but fun to play on the Saturn regardless ) * Discworld ( if you're into adventures )

Yeah I know. Some people said I was stupid for getting a Saturn if I don't like those genres, but I have already seen a bunch of interesting stuff that doesn't fit into those. Does Discworld play well on a console? I didn't even know there was a DW game on the Saturn. I have played Discworld Noir on PC (great game) so would definitely be interested in another! I have the Worms games on my PC and the Bomberman game for the N64 (the traditional Japanese only one as well as the adventure game) already so may leave those until later. I kinda want stuff at the moment I haven't experienced before. I'll definitely look into Discworld though, especially if it goes for a reasonable price. I'm toying with the idea of picking up Nights & 3D controllers and some other stuff, but not sure if Nights is going to be decent or not. From the bits of footage I have seen in reviews, I'm not sure I really 'get' it. I think it was re-released on the xbox, so may download the demo of it there and try it out. Thanks! Oh, and I do like fighting games, but I am terrible at them so can only really play games that are fairly user friendly and don't require silly button combinations to pull off anything half decent

High Adam, welcome to the forums. I hope you enjoy you're stay here. You've picked up some great titles already. Enemy Zero is a real gem. Reading your post in another thread on how you're planning to pick up Burning Rangers at a later stage, I suggest you pick up that game ASAP. Burning Rangers is one of those Saturn games that is slowly creeping up in price so the longer you leave it the more you will pay.
As for game recommendations, I suggest you take some time in reading through the forum. There's an abundance of great information on this site if you take the time to look through it. However I will give you 3 great titles for you to look into:
Exhumed Gungriffon Nights Into Dreams.

Oh yeah, Enemy Zero was great. I actually finished that recently. I think I prefer it to D2 on the Dreamcast too. The story isn't as insane, but the gameplay is certainly better in E0.
If BR is going up in price, I may be tempted to get it. I suppose if I don't like it then I can sell without losing too much in the process. However, the 3D controller is pretty pricey (at least, in addition to the cost of BR). How does BR play with the regular controller? I've heard some games, like Nights, suffer a lot if you use the standard controller instead of the 3D one.
Looked into those games you mentioned too. Exhumed looks pretty cool.

Obviously the 3D controller is whats recommended but Burning Rangers also plays just fine with a regular controller. I completed Burning Rangers with a regular Model 2 controller and had no issues whatsoever. Nights as well is also very playable with a regular controller you won't suffer at all with a standard Model 2.

Nice one. Thanks.
Have either of you played the Darkstalkers games on the Saturn? I've heard of them, and they look cool (they remind me of Skullgirls, which I love) but not sure how easy they are for people who aren't great at fighting games to get into.
The videos I have looked at all talk about how good it is, but don't really talk about the accessibility.

Darkstalkers is a great game. It's sequel Vampire Saviour is even better. Darkstalkers isn't hard to get into. All Capcom Fighters follow the same formula so basically if you've ever played a Streetfighter game you'll find Darkstalkers very accessible.

you welcomed me in my greeting topic so I welcome you here for your question I would recommend you some arcade convertions, you could give a try to Die Hard Arcade (hope the name is correct, I just know it as the japanese name sorry, Dynamite Deka), which is a 3D action fighting game, extremely fun if played with a friend.

As for trying out fighting games: I'd say start simple: virtua fighter as a low learning curve and is cheap. It really like the fact that it does not work with a zillion button combo's like for example street fighter. Can't go wrong with Nights...

Thanks for your suggestions. This weekend I will probably pick up Nights and a few other games. Maybe Exhumed and a fighting game or something. Perhaps Die Hard as well as that looks pretty decent. Do I really need the 3D controller for Nights? I've heard the experience is worsened without it, but I'd rather use the money for another game!

For reasonably priced games I'd recommend:
Panzer Dragoon 1&2 - wonderful games. Nights Sega Rally ( dirt cheap and even people who don't like racing games like it, it's so easy to play). Worldwide Soccer '98 if you like football.
Saturn Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Tomb Raider and Resident Evil are all very good versions of the classics.
You can manage Nights, Quake and Burning Rangers etc. without a 3D pad but it's worth the £20 ish it will cost.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.
Looked into some of the prices and I think I WON'T get Night Warriors. The price is really expensive. For the same price I can get the 4MB Action Replay cart and Vampire Savior (which seems to be in English anyway, bar the voices). I think that will be the better option as the cart will prove quite useful in the future too!
I'll let you know when I have actually bought the games. I'm using the money I make on eBay from selling D2 and a bunch of other Dreamcast games, so hopefully should have a fair amount. D2, Ecco and Maken are literally the only games I really like on the Dreamcast so I am just going to sell it to help fund stuff for a console I actually like!

I'm quite pleased with myself. I poached a failed auction for BR and talked him down to £75 for a mint condition (allegedly) copy. Definitely going to grab it as it is about £10 less than the next cheapest available online. May use the extra cash to get either Tomb Raider or a 3D controller, depending on how much my ebay auctions sell for.
I hope BR is as good as people say!

I like it a lot, it's in my top 5 Saturn games. Completing it isn't particularly difficult, but there is a lot of replay value. And it looks fantastic for a Saturn game.
