I'm having an issue where I'm full booting some CCD games from Rmenu, it brings me to the CD player menu where it tells me to start the application (which I take it as it recognizes it as a saturn game), I see the produced by or under license screen, then it takes me back to Rmenu without starting the game. This isn't specific to Japanese or US games, it's random. But none of them were treated as audio CDs. Also, is it possible to to fully close the console when using the 3D tray? I can only get it flush if I don't use the smaller part of the tray that goes on top of the Rhea. This thing is awesome though. I'm playing games i never thought I could play on my regular HST-3200. I can actually understand Chris in Burning Rangers now! Full boot shouldn't take you to the CD player (unless you're holding down A during boot, that's the normal Saturn shortcut to get to the CD player). You should get the whole shattered glass Saturn intro again, then straight to game. Are you sure it's loaded a game image? Learn to recognize if the application shown from the CD player screen is RMENU, or a game. This will come in handy when using the soft reboot patch. With the system off, hold down A as you turn on the power. This should take you to the CD player screen with RMENU loaded as the application. Or, from RMENU hit B to exit to the CD player. Look at the play disc details. RMENU should show 1 track, with a seconds worth run time. Soft reboot patching isn't really explained (unless you've read the RMENU documentation), but is incredibly useful. This only works with the Fast Boot option, which should work with 99% of games. (I don't use Full Boot) -Add the value "reset_goto = 1" to your .ini file. -Fast Boot a game. -Do the standard A+B+C, Start soft reset in game. X+Y+Z, Start in very select games, like Radiant Silvergun (during gameplay this should take you to title, do it from title to get back to CD player). -Give the CD player a second, the Rhea should reset to folder 1. Start application to get back to RMENU. This effectively lets you swap between games without powering off the console. This is why I said to note the RMENU play details, occasionally this reset doesn't work and the game will stay loaded in the CD player. You'll be able to identify this and do a power cycle to reset to menu.

It should be there when I get home tonight. How can I keep the disc drive safe, as it still works fine? Would it be enough to store it in an anti static bag? Wrap it up in the bubble wrap your Rhea comes in. That pink stuff is anti-static.

Oh ok. I thought that was a compulsory part. Fair enough! Here's an install by your average person.

Jeez, I just looked at the Rhea. No way would I attempt installing that. I would fuck up my Saturn for sure. seriously? Are you capable of rotating a screwdriver by hand? That's the only skill required to install one of those. You literally just remove the top the saturn, unplug the CD drive. Plug up the Rhea, and screw the top of the console back down. Whole install can be done in under 10 minutes. Assembling Ikea flat pack furniture is a couple notches ahead on the difficulty scale.

If I was him I'd just sell the rights to the technology to a small electronics manufacturer. Or come to some kind of franchise/ commission arrangement. Surely the joy of inventing and producing his own device has worn off by now. Maybe I'm wrong. The whole thing is already kind of a grey area in terms of legality. If he started mass producing them or sold the technology to a business he'd probably infringe on a number of copyrights. Please elaborate on this. Is he using copyrighted code or designs in his product? Simply the fact it plays Saturn disc images doesn't make it illegal.

Surely the joy of inventing and producing his own device has worn off by now. Maybe I'm wrong. There's pride in creating something and improving upon it. The hardware has seen minor revisions, firmware gets updates. Who knows really, it wouldn't be my place to tell someone else what they should do with their work after pouring who knows how many man hours into it. Especially when they don't owe me anything. Yeah but if he'd just work with a re-seller then he wouldn't need to worry about such things, and if money is his main motivation he'd probably sell more and make more in the long run anyway. Wouldn't that just move the demand one step down the chain, though? Instead of fielding demands from customers directly, he's now fielding demand for stock from a 3rd party with their own customer base to please. He'd be right back to owing people ODE's.

Yeah, the Rhea is a neat little device and far better than messing with burned discs, sure it could be better designed without the whole weird folder structure nonsense but it works. It took me over a year to get one, it's a absurd system he runs really, he could have made and sold a lot more if he'd just work with re-sellers, cutting his nose to spite his face. I don't speak for the guy, but I can think of a couple possible reasons why the sales are done this way, pain in the butt as they are. Perhaps he values his free time as much or more than potential ODE sales. - Doesn't lock him down. No preorders means he can do batches at his leisure. Want to go on vacation in 2 months, no problem. Want to spend some time working on a device for another system, no problem. - No waiting list means no having to chase people down for payment months later. A preorder system with payment upfront basically ties into the first thing. He'd be under contract of sorts to random people with an understood timeline for delivery. Oh yeah, I want original format but I know things like Tamoraru and EAR are games that I just wont ever get legit unless I win a lot of money! I just didnt know whether the quality was great or not. I mainly wanted to know as I was thinking about selling Saga.... although I think I may hold onto it. It is fantastic! For what it's worth, I'd say never sell PDS unless you need the money to eat or no longer have a Saturn. To me it's the definitive game on the system and one of the few Saturn classics that really can't be played anywhere else in one form or another. I'd never sell PDS either, unless I was in dire straits. Even though technically I don't use the discs anymore to play the game, it's one of my favorites of all time. I see it kind of like having the first edition of a favorite book, even though you read it on a Kindle for convenience.

A Rhea would be nice but it's genuinely difficult to get one. Unless you want to pay big bucks for one on eBay. Don't feed the scalpers. You can get one, it just requires a bit of planning. In fact, you guys in Europe have an incredibly less painful time since the creator (based in Poland) is in or within an hour of your time zones. Sales typically seem to go live on a Saturday, mid to late morning (GMT+1) For us stateside, that means being up in the very early hours of the morning. I've got a Rhea and GDEMU, so it can be done. -Keep an eye on the blog at gdemu.wordpress.com -He does batches of Rhea, Phoebe, GDEMU. Seems to alternate between products. -A sale will be announced a couple days prior, something like "Rhea orders will open this Saturday". Exact time is never announced, but like I've said orders I've made seem to open mid to late morning. -Keep a browser window open on the product order page you're trying to buy, refresh it often during that morning window. There's even services you can use that will send you a notification of when a website sees an update, how reliable they are I'm not sure. -When sales go live the order page will change from "closed" to text boxes where you enter your info and paypal email addy. -You'll get an email notification a day or so later saying you're on the list, then a paypal request when your device is ready to ship. A bit of a pain, but after you've made the order once, you're set. A bit of time on a Saturday morning vs the cumulative time of burning CD-R's for every game you want to play, and possible coasters. The slight irritation of purchasing a Rhea or Phoebe and setting up the SD card is way less of a hassle than dealing with Pseudo Saturn IMO.

Repros? What Saturn repros? There are no Saturn repros, you can't replicate the security sectors. Any copied Saturn games will forever be teh burnz and require some means of loading them. Doesn't matter how fancy people dress up cases on eBay. When you say "get a back up copy" please don't pay someone for Saga slapped on a CD-R, you can do that yourself.
If you're trying to make accurate backup images of Saturn discs you want to use a format that records disc subcode. So, not BIN/CUE.
Something like discjuggler (.cdi) or Clone CD (.sub,.img.ccd)
If you think you're going down that road, I'd highly recommend trying to grab a Rhea or Phoebe. No discs to burn, and your CD drive will be tucked away safely. No worrying about laser issues.

I'll second what others have said about playing at 60hz.
Also, you'll want an Action Replay cart flashed with Pseudo Saturn software. The action replay cart on it's own in stock form WILL NOT play CD-Rs
Shining Force 3 scenarios 2+3 have seen english translations. As well as Dragon Force II. You'd also be able to play Policenauts.
Tomb Raider on the Saturn isn't a bad game, but it was done better on Playstation and PC. If you're buying it because you want to play the original Tomb Raider, I'd recommend the other versions

atolm can I run something by you? If it's a Saturn related question, feel free to post it in the relevant forums (tech support etc..) and I will gladly engage in discussion.

SS:UK policy is that users may not direct members to ROM sites on the public forum. PMs are a different matter, that is at the forum users discretion. This. Asking for download links and posting answers would only bring negative attention (if any) to the forum. Besides, all you need is google. Saturn rips are as easy to find as looking up the weather forecast.

2. I burnt CDs of what i thought was the European PAL version of street fighter collection for my PAL console. It was the only Europe ROM i could find on the web, but the image is cut off at the left and right sides and i suspect that it is just a region patched USA ROM. Is there any way of fixing this problem without having to find the correct version and burn it again (but if you know where i can find the real version as a ROM download on the web could you tell me?)? A good number of Saturn games weren't actually optimized for PAL releases. I can tell you PAL releases like Wipeout 2097 and Keio 2 play perfect on NTSC systems. Street Fighter Collection is one such game. See here for more info: randomisedgaming.tumblr.com/post/146372446412/the-complete-european-sega-saturn-60hz-guide-toI would find a way to play Saturn at 60hz. Either with a switch, or import a NTSC console. Stick with rips of NTSC USA/JP games, and unoptimized PAL releases that run fine at 60hz.
