And another one for Bucko re: sound.
Do you mod Saturns to add digital audio out? I have a really good DAC, so I'm considering this.

Ok fellas, you've got me interested in the OSSC. Worth taking a punt at that price given the reviews. Atolm, I'll make sure to check out Adam's video on this. Just for you Bucko, I assume I won't make it into this batch, so can you estimate when the next round is so I can add to my calendar? And will future improvements be purely via firmware, not hardware? If people don't mind, I have a few more n00b questions, seeing as I'm new to all this: - Will OSCC improve the Wii? - Does it help to capture better footage with elgato? I assume not, as it's just adding scanlines. - Ive downloaded some games from PSN on my PS3 e.g. Gunstar Heroes, FFVI and they look shit. Way too stretched. Is this the same picture quality that I'll get from OSSC? I assume PSN games are optimised and therefore best picture quality available... - Or is the above purely an aspect ratio thing? Huge thanks again.

Welcome to the forum. I only got into the Saturn last year, as I grew up with the mega drive, N64 and PSX. This place has really helped me out. I experienced the same as you but with the Dreamcast, and I'm glad I could buy as many games as I did around 2003-5. I've bought a few Saturn games at top dollar which I believe won't fall in value, but this is turning out to be an expensive hobby Use the website Barry says plus an eBay sniping tool. Or get a flashed action replay cartridge, which will probs be my next move.

Are you using a full Rgb scart lead? Many of them are not full Rgb, put out a composite signal instead. My full Rgb scart looks great on my lcd hdtv. I'd imagine a upscaler will make it look better mind you. Apparently there's no way to tell from looking at the cable. I was going to order a new RGB SCART cable, but apparently first I need to check that the SCART socket on my LCD TV is RGB. Otherwise it will make no difference. Ffs. I find Adam K fairly entertaining, although for factual stuff he is obviously useless. Normally I know enough myself to ignore the mistakes, but I guess he should take more responsibility, especially if he's now making money from a patreon rather than it being a pure hobby.

Ok cheers, really appreciate all the info.
I might get my 21" Sharp CRT out of my parents' attic one day. Seems like the best cheap option.
Framemeister would be amazing, but just not at dat price.

Barry, that's what I thought. Atolm, if you're asking whether I have £300 -- yes. Am I spending it on a framemeister? Nope! Not without seeing one in action and knowing exactly what the difference is. I guess I should have said "won't" rather than "can't" Thanks for the link.

Sorry, I didn't make this clear. I'm already using SCART straight from my Saturn into my LCD TV. Im not using composite. So, I assume the converter won't make a difference. This is all so confusing

Pocket, is that the Excelvan? It doesn't get great reviews on Amazon. I was looking at the Elephas or Neoteck. Atolm, there's no way I can spend that much I watched this Adam Koralik video where he says the cheap converter still made a big difference: m.youtube.com/watch?v=RS55pmLIEjASounds like that's not people's experience here. I would accept a modest improvement, as there's no way I can fit a large CRT in my room (I live in London...). Thanks for your help.

Not exclusively a Saturn related topic, but:
Does anyone have experience using SCART to HDMI converters?
There are a couple on Amazon with good reviews for c.£25. My Saturn looks appalling on my 42" LCD, so I'm sure anything would help.
I'm also interested in capturing footage via elgato, so would this improve the quality?
Finally, one of the converters has optical audio out. I'm assuming this isn't a true digital signal from the Saturn, as the scart has already converted it to analogue. Therefore it wouldn't be the Saturn's DAC that I'd be hearing; rather, it would be the converter's.
Many thanks in advance.

Most of these have been said:
Street Fighter Alpha 2 Layer Section Sega Rally All three Panzer Dragoons Dragon Force Story of Thor Virtual On
As others point out, the 2D fighting games and Shmups haven't aged in any way that affects their gameplay.
For any 3D game, I would say this depends on your ability to 'look past' their datedness.
The ones on my list are still incredible to play, even though their graphics now lack the wow factor they had in the 90s.
I also enjoy other games that have not aged well e.g. Nights, WipEout.
I can't handle many 3D adventure games (Resi, Tomb Raider, Burning Rangers), driving games (Daytona) or sports games (which were all shite even back then).

The Ancients created the towers to control the dead environment and make it habitable for humans. The heresy dragon/program was created within Sestren, so rather than the five dragon forms being on Sestren's "side" per se, it merely used the data it had stored of these forms to run a program where these forms of Lagi attack Lagi and Edge. Sestren is the data network used to run or link the towers. It is not a dragon as such. I hope these answers help. Let me know if you want more info. Definitely clearer, thanks. I just spent ten minutes typing a load more questions, but I think I just need to read a plot summary first. It made sense to me until disc three, but I went a few weeks without playing and was confused when I went back.

If you don't enjoy disc one, I can't see how you'd love the rest tbh. Although I agree disc two is better.
I thought I'd be safe saying that on a hardcore Saturn forum, but obviously not!

As per my other thread, I've just finished PDS and it lives up to the hype. The only problem is that it took me 3 months to complete, so I'm a bit hazy on some plot details. Im hoping someone can clear up the following: I remember Azel saying that dragons were created by humans (Ancients). However, at the end the five dragons are on the side of Sestren (monsters). Was each dragon created with a unique 'purpose', and those with Sestren were created to protect the Tower (and Edge's to destroy the Tower)? Is Sestren a dragon? Also I can't remember who created the Tower (and why) -- a pretty fundamental part of the story The surrealness of the ending makes it difficult to join the dots in my head, given I've had so much going on in my 'real' life. Any help is much appreciated.

Just completed PDS. Like anyone else on here, I think it's one of the best games I've ever played. However, I had no idea beforehand that the OST is so incredible. I can't think of another game that has such consistently good music throughout. The electronic-tribal sound fusion is completely unique; each track also fits perfectly with its corresponding scene. Probably my favourite music in the game: m.youtube.com/watch?v=pywICYWnqsEDoes anyone have a HD download of the soundtrack? did you play the first panzer dragoon games before? if you like saga's music check out panzer dragoon and panzer dragoon zwei as well. me I love the john tash-like music of the end boss of zwei, who you also fight in saga. everyone imo should first play panzer dragoon and especially zwei, it really opens up the storyline of saga a lot more. literally so much is good about panzer dragoon saga that the music isn't the one to stand out in reviews, but after the ending credits, which were beyodn beautiful you couldn't help but feel changed. {Spoiler}who you also fight in saga. I own Zwei but I'm pretty shit at it, so I've not progressed enough to get the story. I also own the first but haven't played it yet. Will defo check out their soundtracks now. Kolba -- I'll look into that as well. Nice one.
