I'm surprised to see people saying that their AR works fine with all the SNK games. Mine definitely does not. KoF '96 has graphical glitches with my AR (albeit the game is still playable and the glitches are somewhat sporadic). By contrast, '97 doesn't have those glitches using the AR. Maybe different ARs have different results? I don't know which exact version mine is. You have raised a very valid point... definitely something that should be looked into in the future.

Just tried KoF 96 and 97 (95 is obviously out of the question) and they both work great, my 96 comes form the double pack btw.

Hi, I too bought an action replay 4M but when it's plugged in the console nothing happens. I don't know if it's the cartdrige or the console. I tried every trick posted in this thread (except the reflowing) but still doesn't work.
My Saturn is disassembled at the moment and I have a multimeter, can I use it to check if the cartdrige slot is working properly? How could I do it?

Good question; I wish I knew what a multimeter was. The obvious thing to do here is try another cartridge, but then of course you'd have to buy another cartridge... Could be worth it, though, if you have an additional use for another type of cart.

I bought my cart over a decade ago but neglected to buy any imported Saturn games until about 18 months ago. It works fine for the most part but I recently finally got around to trying the copy of Vampire Savior I got a while ago and I'm presented with a screen in Japanese each time which I think says I need to put in a 4MB RAM cart for it to load any further.
Not sure why this is, X-Men vs SF works fine so I would have thought VS would too.
Anyone experienced similar issues?

But it is just as likely that the cart doesn't connect fine.

Those 4 in 1 carts are quite flimsy little things. I've had mine for almost a decade and ooccasionally that happens. Just switch it off for a few minutes and try again. Does the trick. I've heard a rumour that these were issues with 2.1 carts. I think they fixed the that glitch with the 2.2 4 in 1s

My AR has decided to fail, well it still works, but for some reason the ui is corrupted and the menu is now unreadable. I have had it for years to be fair and it still got me through metal slug last weekend but I think I will be upgrading to the new version without the serial Port and also in black.

I've got a Japanese Saturn, modded to play CD-Rs, with a 50/60hz switch, and an Action Replay Cart.
It will not let me run any games requiring a RAM cart however, =P. I've tried rubbing dirt off the contacts with cotton (there was hardly any dirt - slot and cart both seem glistening), and the credit card trick at the back (wedging it behind the cart to make things more secure / tilt it forwards a little). I've experimented a little with bending the pins - not sure why people call it bending - they appear to be thin threads of copper, you can pull them out like you would a stitch, but they often recede back. They do not touch each other, as my UK Saturn does, but have a gap between both sides, that matches the thickness of the insertion point of my Action Replay Cart, =P, so it spending years in my Saturn probably pushed the contacts back a bit.
However... if it works for booting up, it it works for playing games, it it works for memory management...
....why doesn't it work for 4MB RAM games? =P. Really want to try Street Fighter Zero 3!
Does anyone know which specific pins map to the RAM features? If I just knew which pins I need to improve the connection with, it might be easier...tweaking every single one with a sewing needle was a pain, and didn't result in any improvement, =/.

Was the cartridge slot dodgy in its day too? I wonder how many Saturn owners bought a Capcom or SNK game and found they just couldn't play it due to the cart not being recognised?

Could be an early cart, those were 1mb only. Open it up and check the memory modules (or post a picture of the board).

Check the contents of the new AR's before you buy as I hear some without the serial ports don't allow you to code in new cheats which can be a pain.

Are the carts the are without a serial port complete with all game codes or do they also miss some codes? Real pain if they don't come complete.
