Hi all, Are there any games you'd recommend that didn't get a PAL release, but did in the USA , with or without Japan? E.g. Magic Knight Rayearth.
I'm normally a bigger fan of action and arcade games rather than Sims and RPGs. Suggestions welcome.

I'd actually recommend all 10 of my US games. All great games. Some may set you back a bit in terms of price.
Contra Legacy of War Iron Storm Winning Post Minnesota Fats Pool Legend Scud The Disposable Assassin Mega Man X 4 High Velocity Mountain Race Challenge Astal Albert Odyessy Magic Knight Rayearth

Astal is probably the main one I'd recommend.

Contra. Definitely more competent than people suggest. It's the name that trips the game up, as there is HIGH expectation with the Contra name. This game is fine, but should never have been adorned with the Contra Legacy

Thanks chaps. I have got Astal, nice game.
Will probably have a go at Megaman x4, MKR and maybe the Pool game to start with.
Iron Storm doesn't appeal personally, too much menu reading for my liking. Ha.

I missed this thread earlier in the month. Glad you jumped over the pond for some of the US non PAL releases. I feel there are a good dozen that need to be played (just like there are a chunk of PAL non US games Ive been grabbing for myself)
CONTRA though, yes, totally recommend. Love it. Probably in my Saturn Top 20 easily. Its a great run and gun once you get the hang of the controls and camera (which only take a few quick runs).
It just scrolls smooth, satisfying weapons that are different for all characters. Even the 3D polygon mid bosses look great. Well paced game too.
It got a bit of a bad rap in the US because so many people associated Contra with 2D sidescrolling. Fair enough, but this is actually a great 3D run n gun game. I wish it would have been named something else, probably would have been better received. At least now adays people are giving a chance.
3D glasses totally not need but cool to try on the second play through. A neat added touch.

This is a great list. High Velocity was a weird one not to see a PAL release for since you guys liked your racers. It was a popular series in Japan if I recall. I would add to this list with some personal choices that are US but not PAL - Hercs Adventures - Congo (more of a guilty pleasure. FPS based on the movie) - Mega Man 8 (very good MM, the best version on consoles too with tons of extras)
