The only good thing that came out of these early home ports of OutRun was the music cassette. Saying that, it was awesome to have a copy of the actual arcade tunes to play over and over again though.

I think their might also be a soft cardboard case for Fighters MegaMix and a hard plastic case for Whizz. (But don't quote me on them, not 100% sure) neither are on the Satakore website. Fighters Megamix was only ever in a Plastic Case From memory the first game to come in Sega's plastic (PAL) case was Sega Ages Vol 1. I used to hunt for new games every weekend back in the day..., Mick our leader also agreed this was so when we last talked about what was the first game to come in one. But Sega Ages was first released in a Cardboard case so it couldn't have been the first plastic case game because the re-release's of Cardboard cases came after Plastic Cases were already on the shelf. It was not a re-release that came later. Sega Ages Vol 1 for the most part came in a plastic case and was already in one on release day. To some old gits like me it was a Daytona USA/Sega Rally moment to those who had been waiting for OutRun to come home as it was meant to be seen..., having had to make do with the C64/Spectrum/Amiga/Atari ST/Master System & MegaDrive versions. Two different disc producers & printers may of been used hence the plastic and card but yeah, this was the first time the plastic case was seen by me and I can only add that depending on the shop or supplier it was bought from would depend on which one you may of got on release day.

That reminds me, True Pinball does not even save high scores on Saturn nor PS1 which is/was a crime to Pinball it's self. It was an early release for both machines mind. The Amiga version known as Pinball Illusions (AGA & 2D only) does save.

WipeOut is always one I remember not supporting the memory cart. And for some reason my memory says Need 4 Speed has the same issue some where, as in the normal internal save will not load if copied over to the memory cart. I've seen Alien Trilogy corrupt the memory cart after saving to it a couple of times... I gave up saving this one and opted for the password code instead as there are no issues on PS1. PS1 only supports password saving.

Yeah, sadly they can be temperamental but if clean and working you should OK for a good while.
A lot of games on Saturn also auto save so try and go back to the title screen and allow a couple of seconds before you reset or turn the machine power off...
BTW With most games and while in-game or in pause you can press and hold A,B,C & START to go back to the title screen. This may not work if a game is loading so best to do it once any loading has finished.

If you see strange text on the memory card it will need to be formatted. Sometimes and this is rare, the only way to format the cart when it's like this is to also wipe the internal memory as that can also mess up and prevent you formatting the cart.
Clean the pins of the cart using ear-buds with either rubbing alcohol, swan lighter fluid, liquid glass cleaner. You can also use a pencil eraser to clean the gold pins off, much easier to do if you can open the cart.
Once clean it should work, (that's if it's not damaged as you should never insert or take out the cart when the machine is on!).
For the most part the carts work, however they can be sensitive to static and may mess up once in a blue moon. It's something that has happened to most of us and there is nothing you can do when it happens... Once the cart is working do not move or take it out. If you have just put the cart in, use the dash to check it's there before loading any games. As long as it's clean and seated properly you should be a-ok.

Try another TV or video lead just in case it's some short, it could be the lead, it could be a lack of power when the CD player is reading? Fuck knows to be honest but try a different screen and/or video lead if possible.
Some Saturn games and if the music has been recorded directly to the disc you can put in any normal CD player, like Daytona USA. Skip to track 2 as track 1 will always be the game data, it should start playing music like a normal CD. This will help prove some of your disc's are a-ok and as they should be, meaning it's the Saturn doing it.

Welcome to the club. Good situational awareness goes along way with the lasers, jumps and what not in fps games. Some have it, some don't. Do or die.

I played the arcade back in the day but never bonded with it as it felt like a strange direction for Sega to be going, as in backwards... This was the era of Super Monaco GP going on to Virtua Racing with OutRunners stuck some where in the middle. That swinging Sonic was cool though!
From what I've seen on Saturn it's a bit like OutRun/Cruis'n USA and based on your best stage/goal times. From some comments some say you get used to the draw distance and the fact each stage has to load. Watch some vids and I'm sure that will help make your mind up if the price is right.

It's nice to have the PS1 version also as it's a bit like having a directors cut of the game. All the tweaks and differences your come across in level design are very interesting.

Gale Racer - JPN Dreamcast port of Power Drift is like a HD remake built from the ground up with superb midi style music of the original tunes. Runs @ 60fps and is wicked! This version is 60hz ONLY, PAL Dreamcast's will need to be forced in to 60hz to load - VGA. Saturn Power Drift is more or less arcade perfect however: Runs @ 30fps Arcade Music is very loud forcing you to use the arranged music instead to get a happy medium. Thankfully the arranged music is awesome!!! A small amount of text is Japanese but does not in any way stop you from playing it! Power Drift is also on Nintendo 3DS. It's much like the Saturn version but this baby runs at 60fps and the 3D effect is maybe the best the machine has ever seen. It also has Japan and Overseas mode so in Japan mode it's like having a Sega Saturn in ya hands. See more info on 3DS Power Drift here: segasaturngroup.proboards.com/thread/9844/sega-3d-classic-collection-3ds Other games such as OutRun, Super Hang-on, AfterBurner, Space Harrier, Galaxy Force II & Thunder Blade are also on 3DS and very good too.

Chances are you wont finish it on Saturn... To see why start playing Doom2 on the hardest difficulty, reach the 3rd map and your see just how ugly the game gets. Try rushing the level. 32X Doom is wicked as I'm also fond of it, but yeah... If you prefer 1990's console Doom over PC Doom then grab Doom & Final Doom for PS1. Having both will cover all your retro console Doom needs! PS1 Doom Tip: Best played with the original PS1 controller, but also... If you find walking forwards while turning is a little sticky, loosen the screws of the pad by half a turn on the D-pad side. Your find it much smoother and easier to turn while walking forwards, (much like it is on a 6 button Megadrive pad).Your be playing like a PRO in no time.

Greetings, Your just up the road from me, Southampton. I'm an old git as well rolling in at 46. Very cool you have an OutRun arcade machine! The real OutRun 1986 arcade machine is wicked, just as I have so much crap such as computers to consoles from the 1980's to the present day I've made do with the Saturn version of OutRun. On the plus side if the machine or screen dies they can be replaced a lot easier but yeah, very cool and always will be to see the real iron. Sticking with OutRun... I used to be known as the man for OutRun2, OutRun2SP, OutRun2006 & OutRun Online Arcade on XBOX,PS2 & XBOX360 - back when the games were current. If you ever had the pleasure I was that bastard on top of all the OutRun Mode leader boards.

Yeah once a save has messed up the only way to fix it is to wipe/format the cart and start over. You may also find nothing else can be saved to the cart until it's formatted, or at times you may find this to be so which is normally the first sign that something is up when you try saving...
Easier to do if you have a Megadrive/Genesis cart opener tool, (so you can open it up and get to the pins properly). Use a clean pencil rubber/eraser on the gold pins and it will remove any dirt and grease that you normally can't see. Give it a wipe with a cloth afterwards and it should be as good as new.
