People who are too lazy to plug the console in.
People who's console is very temperamental and will only play the games it wants (mine, :/ ill by a new (old) one at some point)

people who still wana play saturn when aaaaall the original hardware fails which wont be long seeing as how quick saturns are kicking the bucket. My Saturn was second hand when I bought it in 1997. It still has not failed me even once, and I play a lot. The Saturn is famous for its tank-like qualities, as opposed to the nintendo 64 and, sadly, the Dreamcast. Could it be kicking the bucket only for those who play violently like children or those who modify the hardware all the time?

meh thats just luck...
Many people have saturns die on them even with little use. I've had saturns fail on me form time of the time. My current one works sometimes but I'm having a few problems with it from time to time which is very annoying.

You have indeed been very lucky Warlok, I've had never used Saturns, particularly model 2 pal units, die a few hours out of the box with light use.

I've had two model 2 PAL units die on me, but never right away. In fact, I'm now back to using my ever-trusty model 1, which is a launch system that I only ever wanted to replace because the drive lid spring broke while attempting a disc swap modification. Maybe one day I'll get that fixed, or perhaps I'll just get another model 1 because they're clearly the more reliable version?
Anyway, I'm almost as much in love with the latest SSF as my actual Saturn... and that's really saying something! However, what does bother me is that in spite of its popularity (well, it seems there are plenty of you emulating out there) nobody has set up an online resource for game savestates. Now this feature is better supported, I would happily set the ball rolling with files for common titles or even rarer examples. Who'd want to play through Dead Or Alive countless times to unlock everything when you can download someone else's hard work? We could share lap records, high scores, replays and even conduct our very own contests - perhaps someone CAN survive a lap of Sega Touring Car without hitting the walls, after all?

You have indeed been very lucky Warlok, I've had never used Saturns, particularly model 2 pal units, die a few hours out of the box with light use. Starting to get worried here... Maybe my blissful ignorance kept my system alive? :S I read an interview with some japanese game designer (don't remember for which of sega's arcade divisions though) and big time sega collector in swedish games magazine Level last year, and he told a story about finding a discarded Saturn in a puddle in the streets of Tokyo, taking it home, opening the chassi and drying it with a hairdryer. It worked like a charm, and he claimed he still used it, eight years after this. And he went on an on about the Saturn's longevity, high hardware quality and "thick skin". But this is just what I've read, I don't know shite about hardware or electronics or anything. But I know damn sure my Saturn has not froze or broke down on me once, and counting generously I've played at least two or three times a week these last twelve years (and at least once a day right now). At the very least 1600 on-and-off sessions. Well, some games have frozen and/or rebooted, but only when the CD's were scratched.

Then I'm as lucky as Warlok, my Sat is probably 12 years old, I had it for 10 and used it for half that time and I don't remember I ever had problems with it, except when using some really badly scratched cd's (they still worked though). I always have the impression that it will work forever... And I sent my Saturn on vacation again and pulled out my PS2 (I terribly missed some games) which is probably going to work even longer (FreeMCBoot+HDLoader=no need to use dvd's anymore). It's really hard for me to believe in Saturn's dying after few hours...

Yeah. While I haven't had mine for nearly as long as all you guys, try every day for two years with a modchip, playing cheap CD-R backups. It still works just as well as when I bought it.
Model 2 US one to boot. Brought it on rough trips with bumps and junk and it still works fantastically. Heck, I even managed to screw it up a bit when I opened it up a few times but even after I fixed it up, it was like new again.

My current one works sometimes but I'm having a few problems with it from time to time which is very annoying. most of my saturns are fine and still alive ( no cake however) hwever my latest model 1 has cartridge problems if i insert an st key the pcb gets warped and it refuses to load cd's and a model 2 who err died for some reason its daughter card was ratteling around inside it god knows how that happend i prefer model 2 over model 1's my first saturn was a model 1 who was nothing then trouble and model 2's are newer ...ish

The model 1's are infinitely more reliable though and generally have much better build quality throughout. Also: The ST Key is the WORST cart u can use on your saturn IMHO, the PCBs (on the ones I have anyway) are way too thick and damage the cart slot. The Saturn CD+ region carts have the same issue.

i tend to prefer my model 2's who have been giving me rock solid performance im probably wary of the models 1's because my first one burned me
and that quote was a direct reply to one of my posts the st key is nailed to a wall and i only us emy action replay 4 in 1 who seems to work just fine the saturn is behaving normally at the moment
