doesn't VF2 render the Polygons in Hi-Res as well as the backgrounds? Actually, you're right - I've confused VF2 with Fighters Megamix!

Maybe I won't write anything new but I think not everybody knows how one can record videos with SSF (at least I didn't). I tried some video capturing software but with no luck, fortunately SSF has an inbuild movie recorded which is strangely not present in the drop down menu, only mentioned in readme file. To record a movie, or to stop recording, just press shift+F9, although sometimes it will result in a crash. This doesn't pull the SSF performance down except for occasional framedrops (it happend more often when SSF saved the file on the external harddrive, so it's better to put the SSF folder on a faster one). After recording you'll have a .ssfv file in the snapshot folder and a .wav file in the wave folder. Now you need a program called AviUtl (freeware) to convert the file into avi, get it from here (along with the language pack, as it's in japanese): www.geocities.com/fredledingo/aviutl.htm. Then just open the .ssfv file and simply select "Save AVI". You could also try to pack ssfv and wav together with AVI Operation->A/V Mux (Mix?) but I found that audio is always out of sync (beacuse of framedrops, also the output vid seems to be running slightly faster than the game). I don't know if there's a way to configure the movie capture settings though (resolution etc.; e.g. VF2 video resolution was, in my case, 352x264). I've just uploaded one on the youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY1ezEMNU0Q

Well, it seems there has been yet another update of SSF, but frustratingly they've still yet to fix the region detection issue that means certain games are displayed in the wrong resolution, which results in a significant portion of the screen being lost vertically. Come to think of it, has anyone else upgraded because I sure can't notice any significant differences between this latest version and the previous? On a slightly different note, my other half has just got a new laptop (currently being used to write this message) that runs the emulator much better than our old system. For the record, here are the key details:
Intel Pentium dual-core processor T4200 (2.0GHz, 800 Mhz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache) 732MB Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M 2GB DDR2 250GB HDD
While performance still isn't perfect, it's far superior to my "old faithful" laptop that I'll still be using more frequently... not to mention the poor desktop we have that rarely gets much action these days! Anyway, thanks for the video recording tips - I had absolutely no idea SSF had its own in-built capturing feature. My guess is that it's not included in the options menu because further improvements are to be made before it reaches the satisfaction of its creator.

Since Alpha 0.10 R3 version of SSF I've noticed the lack of sound effects when playing VF2, on the other hand the menu music in Sega Rally sounds less messed up, so the new versions are a mixed bag, haven't tried the newest one though.
