I've had VR since it was current, but not really put much time into it. Until tonight.
It may well have a frame rate only marginally better than a slide show, and possess more impossible, ugly corners than Transformer vomit, but once you suss the rythm of this game: it rocks.
It only shares looks and the name of its arcade counterpart, but it's well worth a pick up 'n' play.
You think?

I quite like the MD version myself lol. Play it on the Saturn afterward though and you wont be moaning about the framerate of the Saturn version! lol

Never played Virtua Racing. I hear it's similar to Checkered Flag on the Jaguar. Graphically, at least.

But even the Mega Drive version of Virtua Racing looks like a technical marvel next to Checkered Flag, never mind the Saturn version.

I never got around to playing the Saturn version of VR, but I really enjoyed the Mega Drive version back in the day and still do. The 32X version looks promising, but I've never given it much of a go.

The graphics are a little better but the controls of the MD/32x games felt identical to me. If you find it cheap, the 32x version is worth a look

For me it's 32X > MD > SATURN. Warner did a really lazy job with the Saturn port, whereas AM2 handled the other two versions. You can see it in the level design and the textures, no load times and just the sheer spectacle of witnessing such an advanced polygonal game on the Genesis more than betters a game that already looked dated and played even worse when it finally hit the Saturn. After that and the Daytona port, you'd think that the Saturn would be doomed for racing games, but luckily Sega Rally, Manx TT and WipeOut were waiting in the wings.

NOT TO BE A... complete 'shit' about it, but truth be told, aside SEGA Rally, the Saturn WAS doomed re: racing games (on the whole, in PAL territory, at least). I'd say WipeOut 2097 is the only other racer for Saturn worth seriously considering as noteworthy. Personally, I think the Saturn ver. of WipeOut is pretty tragic and Manx isn't much better (Manx's AI in particularly, is terrible!). DON'T get me wrong. I too love a bit of Daytona & Manx on the Saturn (and F1 Challenge too), but I don't think they're great games or worthy of mention when discussing Saturn with 'others'. If anything, I'd actually go out of my way not to draw attention to them...

Sega Rally & Daytona USA CCE are both fantastic racers. Take the daytona name out of CCE and you'd find no one would be bitching about it.

If Daytona CCE, was in fact a different game, with different tracks/cars etc, I think PPL would rate it much more highly instead of comparing the handling/music etc...

I think the first one is excellent and on par with the PS1 version. They both have pros and cons. But, I spent some time on 2097 the other night and omg what the hell did they do to this fine series? They took a great game and broke it. Even the menus are a downgrade. No more selectable drivers and the cars look like crap. Also, you can't even modify the controls for the arcade racer. I don't remember checkpoints in the first game either. Now you explode if you don't make it in time. I'll spend more time with it sometime, but I'm in no hurry to do so. Is the PS1 version of 2097/XL as bad? In addition to the original, I do have Wipeout 3 on PS1 and it is a gem!
