I keep hoping to find a reasonably priced copy of Sonic Jam, as I've never owned a Mega Drive either. I'm a sucker for a good compilation. I saved quite a bit by buying the JP version. No language issues as everything is in English.

Bug starts off well but becomes amazingly tedious and frustrating. Bug Too is even harder. Clockwork Knight is OK but Shinobi X is my favourite platformer despite the horrendously difficult last boss.

For the money it 'might' (unsure of US prices for Jam) cost you to get the compilation, it might well be cheaper to just buy a loose MD and the 3 games! S&K might be pricey though According to RarityGuide.com, it's $41 for a complete-in-box North American version of Sonic Jam, versus $84 for a loose Genesis and loose copies of the component games. Plus I'd be missing out on the 3D world and stuff like that. So yeah, Sonic Jam goes for a lot of money given that it's basically a compilation, but not that much. No language issues as everything is in English. Ah, good to know. I'll keep an eye out.

Here are a few of my Saturn platforming recommendations:
Tryrush Deppy is a colourful, cartoon-styled Japanese exclusive where you play as an animated car (yes, really!) that can leap around and collect motor-based power ups. I find it very similar stylistically to Rayman and Super Tempo - the updated version of an obscure 32X title.
Did you love the Sonic World portion of Sonic Jam but wish it could have been longer? Ninpen Manmaru is for you, then... I'd even rank this import-only title higher than Croc, which most consider the second best 3D platformer on the Saturn.
Finally, while you're getting an American copy of the criminally underrated Astal that Sega Europe never brought out over here, get the US edition of Clockwork Knight 2 as well so you can enjoy a wealth of mini games that didn't survive the PAL localisation process for some reason.
P.S. Would anyone else consider Silhouette Mirage a platforming game, too?

You're better off looking at ebay auctions yourself. There is no way in hell a loose Genesis will cost you $84. I bought a loose Model 2 Genesis with 16 games (which included complete copies of Sonic 1-3 and a loose copy of Sonic and Knuckles with 2 6-button controllers for a grand total of $26. Sonic Jam depending on the day of the week will cost anywhere from $20-$60 for a complete US copy. RarityGuide doesn't actually base their prices on actual auctions or actual rarity like they claim. It's almost all done on BINs or just pulling numbers out of their butts. That site is the entire reason that Megaman 8 on the Saturn spiked in price. It used to be the cheaper more affordable of the two Megaman games on the US Saturn. I paid $20 for my copy in 2007/2008 and at that time it was averaging around $30-$50. RarityGuide however came along and found a BIN that was posted for $130 and listed the game as worth that much on their site. People believed them and now the game is stupidly expensive.

As for Silhouette Mirage, I would include it in the list, but more of an action platformer. And more of the action than platforming. P.S. nice to see you're still alive Anth.

I only ever found the Boss Rush mode. Well, it's been too long since I played Clockwork Knight 2 anyway, so I'm ready to pop that disc back in.

it's $41 for a complete-in-box North American version of Sonic Jam. To be honestly, for that price, you're better off getting the stupidly cheap Japanese version. Most of it is in English anyways. Unless, of course, you're collecting US Saturn games.

I didn't not know this! Are the minigames in the JP version(s)? P.S. nice to see you're still alive Anth. I'm not actually sure if the mini games menu is present in the original Japanese version, but it always puzzled me why the code I first saw printed in a magazine years ago didn't have an effect on my PAL copy until I eventually realised this feature was (allegedly) removed during the localisation process. Can someone perhaps do a file comparison to see if it's still on the disc, or maybe even find proof confirming its absence? I might actually be completely wrong on this one, which means I could have obtained the US edition for nothing... P.S. Real life commitments have left me with little spare time recently - I'm still very much alive, though!

I was tempted to start thread called 'Virtua Fighter 3 for the Saturn leaked' just to see if you were alive. Although, upon reflection, such a title would probably give you a heart attack and kill you anyways XD

Ah, don't worry about it! I can't even remember if I've mentioned this before openly, though I've certainly told a few people here in private messages - I felt it necessary to explain my absence that thankfully lasted just a few weeks. Fortunately, it wasn't too major, but that's not really the point. I recall spending a large portion of my recovery period completing Panzer Dragoon Saga, which is quite surprising because another side effect of the condition that led to me suffering a heart attack is memory loss. Following this, I've become more dependent on written notes (and countless reminders to finish certain tasks) in my own project. On the other hand, working two rather heavy duty jobs has proved very helpful as I've found my ability to recall short term details improving from one day to the next. Actually, that figure will soon rise to three, but I'm seriously derailing the thread now... P.S. On the subject of leaks, has anyone else played the recently uploaded "vanilla" build of the 40% complete Biohazard 2 prototype yet? Also, since you mentioned simply waking me up instead, who's to say I don't rise every morning safe in the knowledge a copy of VF3 is stored away under my bed where nobody would think of looking for it, along with a few other Saturn prototypes?
