Fighter's Megamix = most overrated.
Generally, if a game was hyped for the Saturn, being the Sega fanboy I was, I'd always convince myself they lived up to it. This wasn't the case with Fighter's Megamix though. From the moment I started playing the controls felt jerky, the different kinds of levels gimmicky and about 2/3rds of the characters just ridiculously unneeded for.
I mean, if I remember correctly, the woman from VR cop was exactly like Sarah from VF, but maybe even less moves (or one extra - being able to use her gun). Then there was the Daytona car.
The first time, yeah, haha very funny. Then just annoying. I'm so glad it was my friend that bought it and not me.

No way man, Virtual On is a fighter's fighter. There's NO FRIGGIN WAY a newbie is going to beat a veteran in that game by mashing buttons. I really can't say that about a lot of other fighters post-Street Fighter 2.
Twin stick prices? I think westerners get royally raped on the going value of these things, partly because of the bulkiness of things which shoots up the shipping charges. However, if you ever buy then in Asia in person, they're dirt cheap. I bought three saturns ones in the past - my first two for 1500 won each (~$15) back in 2000 in Korea (and that even included a shrink-wrapped copy of Korean version of VO), and one more in Japan 2 years ago at 500 yen. (<$5)
Even the quality DC ones were going at about 4000 yen or so at a second-hand video game shop (~$35) IIRC.

I think Virtual On is over hyped also. It's a great concept, but the controls and lack of ability really hamper the game. That said, I've never played with the twin-sticks, which I assume is why I can't really get into the game. The music is cool though...
Fighters Megamix is another overrated game. This game is so unbalanced it's not funny. The controls are non-responsive, the A.I. is cheap, most of the new characters are worthless. The idea of combining VF and FV sounds good, and there's some nice ideas in the game, like the tiers (although being able to create your own tiers to fight against would have made the game much more enjoyable), and some of the modes and options. However, ultimately I think this game stinks.
I loved both NiGHTS and Burning Rangers by the way.

I thought the experience building was cool, but there are much better beat-em-up action to be found on the Saturn, i.e -- D&D compilation set, Warriors of Fate, Die Hard Arcade, etc.

I was also disappointed by Guardian Heroes. A good concept, and one I'm sure is great fun with friends, but not a great single player experience. It's not a bad game, just over hyped.

I still think it's a good game though.

Just because someone doesn't like a game or can't be bothered to learn all the technical aspects of it, doesn't make it overrated or crap.

It's one of the best games ever made, and once you start to get the chain sistem and the diferent ways you can "link", it's a game with huge longevity and a game for true "pros". But yeah, I concur with Guardian Heroes, sometimes it get's really confusing all that stuff on the screen.

The problem with this kind of topic is time. If VF2 (just for example) was released now in 2009 just looking and playing the same as it did in 1996, it would get savaged by press and public alike. Back then, there was nothing to compare the rich visuals to or the myriad different fighting styles and moves or the incredible Arcade-in the Home presentation. I remember buying Maximum magazine just to soak up the huge VF2 feature Richard Leadbetter put together, even though I already had SSM. This was obviously back before broadband and instant info. Back then VF2, Sega Rally and the rest were the Gears of War, Oblivion and PGR4 of their day. I can't bring myself to agree in the slightest that they could be considered overrated. They were just different games for a different era. It's like comparing the original Powel Bones Team to today's current skaters. No one calls the BT overrated. They were the instigators of the modern skate movement as we know it. Without them we would all be going about on *shudder* rollerblades... Just ask Tony Alva.

In reality, "Overrated" and "Underrated" are bullshit terms.
Why not just say "I hate something everyone else likes" or "I like something everyone else hates"?
