I agree with the comments on VF2, it is a game that a skilled player will beat a button basher eveytime, unlike Tekken for example.
After street fighter the fighting games went done hill, sure tekken and soul calibur looked good but you didn't really need a great deal of skill as you could get by with button bashing. All my mates would be happy play me on tekken on the ps1 but would never want to play VF" on my saturn.
thinking of it i donmt know why i was friends with them, as you can no doubt tell i am anti playstation, i would rather commit hari-kiri than buy a ps1,2 or 3, and im being serious.

i think most fighting games are a mixture of skill's and button bashing ive played many different fighting games and have found people win about 50/50 button bashing / skills.

In reality, "Overrated" and "Underrated" are bullshit terms. Why not just say "I hate something everyone else likes" or "I like something everyone else hates"? I suppose in some ways overated and underated relates to how much a person pays for a game versus how much they think a game is worth. For example, I rate something like Guardian Heroes as overrated because it goes for a lot of money and I feel a little ripped off after shelling out so much for a game that is good, but not good enough to warrent the high price tag and the extensive time spent tracking it down. If the game went for a lot less I'm sure I would enjoy it more. Do you see what I mean?

Personally, I think the Saturn was a system characterized by underrated games. There are so many great titles that flew under the radar, and the ones that actually did get praise (Virtua Fighter 2, Panzer Dragoon) justly deserved it. Even something like NiGHTS is pretty underrated, especially considering it got pretty lukewarm reviews when it debuted against Mario and Crash.

yeah NiGHTS even though its highly replayable, and its controlls are great (with 3d controller) its a pretty simple affair compared to other games, its possibly the only game where style over substance is actually a good thing so to me its no wonder the numbskull reviewers gave it lukewarm reviews, as it is very underrated and also very overrated in the same breath yet in the end is a great game, a unique peice of software in my eyes.
As for a blatently overated saturn game, i'd go or X-men vs StreetFighter.

Don't get me wrong, they're damn good, but I get sick of hearing about them and they're not 'that' good especially if you're not into that visual style.
I just think there are much better 2D fighters on the Saturn...

alpha 2 is one of the best 2d fighters ever and definitley a must have if ur into 2d fighters in my eyes it ranks up with the best, forget alpha 3 overblown nonsense, alpha 2 is where its at for alpha (or if ur lucky enough alpha 2 dash)

For me there are just too many Street Fighter games and spin-offs to really keep track. I mean, when you consider the history it's pretty ludicrous.
You follow Street Fighter with Street Fighter II. Seems logical. So what comes next, Street Fighter III? No. Street Fighter II Turbo. Okay, fine. Now 3? No. Super Street Fighter II. Uh, okay. Three has to be on the horizon now, right? Street Fighter Alpha. And Alpha 2. There were some with an X in the title, too. Probably about 10 more in between that I'm forgetting, but really that's the convolution of the series. I own Alpha and the Street Fighter Collection, and I'm happy to have both games, but really, the mess that Capcom made progressing that series is too much to be overlooked.

I feel like I am turning into the Guardian heroes fan boy, but I can't believe you think its overrated.
Its pretty much the reason I bought a Saturn albeit only a month ago, so probably too early to judge. But anyway it blew me away, I did play it with friends though and that did multiply the awesome by about 42.
Everything about it rules - the graphics which are amazingly stylized will never get old, The gameplay is also great - the levelling up adds great depth to it, anyone else got onto the secret arena during the story mode and kept fighting till you're level 100+ er.... nah me neither :s. Being able to pick a path and side with whoever you want as you go along is also nice as its gives the illusion of free choice!
Looooove it, anyway back on topic, only given it a couple of goes, but dragon force seems pretty bad was expecting a lot from it

I think I preferred SSFIIT over Alpha 2, but only slightly because of the better character roster. Alpha 2 was definitely the best Saturn SF games. Hey, if you get SF Collection you get both anyway!

I agree with the Fighters Megamix nomination. Low-res and boring, IMO.
