My RGB cable arrived, and it's frickin peng, even on lcd screens! Arrived from Poland in 2 days too. Can't agree with the build quality though, seems 'ok' to me, not as good as the official. Def recommended, I've tried to a grey model 1 and a white model 2, both appear to be identical in video quality.

There are def issues. Here's a video of my PAL RGB cable I got with my saturn in '97, with a JPN saturn vimeo.com/118757975The cable would be fine if you could find some sort of powered SCART hub (you may read posts about one from Argos for a tenner, but those posts are years old and such a device is hard to find nowadays, especially at that price) You might be fine with RF (I dunno, but F that). Like you'll read everywhere, it's all about getting the right voltage from one of the pins, as the AV out on PAL and JPN saturn a are different. Rob at consolegoods.co.uk is usually your man, be he tells me he's out of stock for 3 months. That eBay link looks good though, if a tad pricey. I've yet to pull the trigger on an RGB lead that will 100% work at full RGB quality in the UK, with my JPN Saturn. Are you sure your PAL Saturn came with an RGB Scart? As far as I knew UK Saturns just came with normal SCART leads which were not RGB. I've owned 2 UK Saturns and non of them came with RGB Scarts. You're issues in that video look similar to mine only my main problem was everything was displayed in black and white. I had to go elsewhere to buy a TRUE RGB Scart and the problem stopped.

From what I read, I thought it was RGB. I popped it open too and there's a resister in the scart end. I now def own an RGB lead, so when I get my PAL saturn in the same room (it's 150 miles away) I'll do a quick comparison between what it came with, and this one from Poland

Interesting. I'm gonna have to check the box. My first Saturn which I purchased from Dixons, I remember the SCART lead was kinda funky with missing pins. When I finally switched my console all I got was a Black & White picture. when I took my cables into Computer Exchange in Rathbourne Place they told me the official cables were not RGB and I ended up buying another cable from them and everything worked. The only difference I noticed was the official ones seemed to have less pins like this. The second one I got the pin holes were completely filled out. My original SCART below

All the pins for audio and video are there, the missing ones are for things which are not used by the cable. If you open up your cable that has all the pins filled out, you'll see that half of them aren't connected.
It's odd that you only got black and white picture with that cable. I have a couple of original cables (both the early and the later types) and they all get perfect RGB picture on all the PAL Saturns I tried them with. So it is probably a TV issue. Maybe because some of the ground pins are not connected on the official cables.
I've heard that the fact that the Saturns came with SCART leads led to a huge uproar back in the day, and many places ended up selling RF connectors because TVs didn't have SCART connectors on them. Possibly they also had problems with black and white picture like that.

I remember being well negged that I couldn't plug the scart lead into my little 14" Matsui tv. I went to some pony electronics store to buy an RF unit, got chatting to the guy who helpfully informed me that as I had a VCR plugged into my tele (through RF), that the VCR probably had a scart-in (which it did) so I played for 5 years with it going through that, with no issues. Good lad 'im

Actually last time I was at home with it, I took these pictures incase it would be of use. This is the cable that came with my Sega Rally/SWWS97 console bundle That's the highest quality SCART cable they ever officially released for the Saturn, as far as I know. It has individual shielding on the audio lines, which almost completely eliminates audio noise (you have to really turn up volume to hear any). And yeah, it is definitely RGB. Only problem they have is that due to their age, a lot of them came loose on the Saturn a/v end, so you have tons of issues like one colour or sound channel not always connecting depending on the angle the connector sits at. I had to buy a couple of spare plugs to fix up such cables - using one myself as well.

Ah boom, good to know that my PAL unit has a top quality RGB, and my JPN Saturn will use the one I got from Poland. Have never had any problems with it though, and it must have been plugged and unplugged hundreds and hundreds of times in 17-18 years

Long may it live another 20 odd years. This polish seller intrigues me. I might get one just to compare his RGB SCART with Robs one at Console goods.
