Hi everybody,
as I'm collecting not only Sega Saturn but Playstation games, too. I always check and decide which system got the better port. I know there are guys on youtube who compare ports but a nice and quick to check list would be helpful. Do you know if there is a list which lists all games released on saturn and ps1? And if not, would you be interested in such list? Maybe I could use this thread to start one.

Generally from what I've found when comparing ports is that the PSX version tends to win out, but it might be explained by the fact that the games were most likely originally developed on the PSX. Castlevania SOTH being a primary example. However, I will say most of the Capcom games including Resident Evil are best played on the Saturn.

I'll throw in Grandia, Policenauts, Dead or Alive, as being considered superior on the Saturn. Sure some more will pop into my head.

Pretty much every Capcom 2D Fighter is superior on the Sega Saturn to the PSX.

Surprisingly a chunk of the First Person Shooters are better on Saturn
- Alien Trilogy - Runs a little better despite a tad more draw distance with Saturn version - Hexen - Better frame rate - Powerslave - Both versions are close but Saturn has more features - Duke Nukem 3D - PS1 version has more levels and an extra episode but Saturn version destroys it in frame rate/lighting. Usually if a game is close enough, I always go for the new levels/more features, but the frame rate difference is so large between the two Id rather have the playable one.
Others: - Contra Legacy of War is supposed to run better on Saturn according to the developers and some random folks Ive read. - Mega Man 8 US - Saturn version includes alot more bonus content including 2 classic bosses. Performance wise both play well. Saturn version with some better graphical touches in the backgrounds. - Mega Man X4 US - Saturn version has better background graphics while PS1 has some better transparencies. Close but edge to Saturn

Hexen may have better framerate but it requires a genuine Saturn memory card to save, as the file is too big to fit in the system memory.
The PSX version takes a whole memory card but that's a far less arduous requirement on that machine.

Hey,
happy to see, that you guys are interested. I'm going to prepare a Google spreadsheet and start with the games mentioned and other "important" games. Don't know when I'll be able to start working on it (damn real life).
I suggest these columns: Name, release ss, release PS (both with regions), extra content, superior release, comments

I always have one in my system as most of the larger games, RPGs etc need it anyway. This shouldn't be a reason to pick PS1 Hexen imo. Also you should never have to take out the Ram Cart so you shouldn't feel its damaging the pins. I have 2 main Saturns I use. Both are US models. I leave an official memory cart in one and the other has an Action Replay at all times for imports.

Myst is better on Saturn. While the PSX port has a bigger video window, the colours are richer on Saturn, making for a more immersive game. It is touted as the best version of the game.

I never knew this about the Saturn version. Thats actually pretty cool if true. Saturn Myst is the version I grew up playing and put a ton of hours into it.

Seeing the other thread I don't know if I should put work in a spreadsheet.
Nevertheless I throw in Strikers 1945 II. I have both version and believe the PS one has less slowdown but the slowdown on saturn is pretty minimal to begin with.
I like the extra content on resident evil saturn, but I think the PS version looks better. In general I often choose saturn ports because I can use the saturn controller
