I found another easter egg in level E2M2 that is a picture of the developer and it says Yuill fish lives. Apparently its based on the DopeFish secret in the PC version but they used John Yuill who worked for Lobotomy lol.

Actually doing an EASY mode play through now just for fun. Easy mode has less enemies per level. Going to see if the totals lineup. Also its just easy plowing through it pretty quick on this mode so its fun.
I also entered the rain cheat at the start to play with rain on every level through the game and so far its a very cool touch. Almost totally changed the atmosphere.

Decided to start a separate thread So Ive owned Quake since it was released (got it for Christmas 1997 when I was 11) and I probably play through it once every 2 years since. But somehow all this time Ive never done a deep look at all the amazingness Lobotomy put into it. I feel they kind of went all out with extras compared to Duke Nukem. Random cheats
In the US version you can use a cheat that I only found via one of the programmers old gamefaq posts where you can have it rain on every level with an open area. Really cool effect that is otherwise only in the 1 secret level. ComicThe US version also has a comic called Dank and Scuz which I actually found randomly on my own when searching for 100% secrets. Its pretty funny and it was actually taken from a fan project created for the PC version around the same time. Apartment Level
Anyway in the US Version if you beat the game with all of the secrets 100% which I just did the credits sequence takes place in one of the developers apartments. The PAL version automatically gives you this ending even if you dont get all the secrets. The US version goes to level 2 during the credits otherwise. Probably why I never knew about this apartment thing However if you enter a Action Replay code in the US version before you start the game, you can actually play in the apartment level! So cool, I dont know how I never knew this and there isn't much data on the web about it overall. Sorry for the bright pictures, hard to take them on a CRT Its pretty cool even though its just a small level. There is an ogre with a Lobotomy shirt watching TV, a pizza, a dog sleeping and a bathroom down the hallway which when you enter will start you at level 1 T

So I ended up finishing Quake today. The only thing I ever find a slight letdown with Quake 1 is the final boss. Its confusing to figure out how to beat first off but also just isn't anything more than a medley of the games enemies. The first episode probably has the only real unique boss.
Final kill totals were 1145/1147 and Secrets 105/105
I forgot to take a picture but after you beat the game the counter doesnt work and simply says 999/999 kills. Although on the save screen it does say your totals.
There was another level near the end that also had a missing enemy that I confirmed with another youtuber that was looking as well so 2 total enemies you can't find.
One more fun tidbit. Im not 100% but of the 105 secrets they seem to all be exactly like the PC version except for 1! There is one level where Lobotomy made their own completely new secret in place of a regular one (made it a pain to find it)
The Easy mode does have a lower kill count and I might play through that mode to see if I can get a real 100% number
Also Ive owned Quake since it came out and I play through it ever 2 years but this is the first time I did a thorough playing of it. I found so many easter eggs I never knew existed!
There is also a cheat in the US version that I only found by finding one of the developers (Jevon) entry on Gamefaq where you can have it rain on every level that has an open area which is pretty cool
I think Im going to do my Duke Nukem 3D playthrough next and I want to finally do a 100% run in that game as well. See what hidden things Ive missed. I do know that Duke has less stuff and was a bit more rushed (like a couple of the secrets don't contain any powerups). But Lobotomy didnt just make a few great titles on Saturn, they added so many cool little things to the North American versions (which is odd as they always talked about trying to cater to their large PAL fanbase). Powerslave has the Dolls and Death Tank. Duke Nukem has deathtank and the great Netlink modes. Quake has the comic, secret levels, apartment level etc.

Alright so I went on youtube to see if anyone tried to do a 100% run of Quake Saturn. I found this video where a guy tries to get 100% secrets on Chambers of Torment for Saturn. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkmZWShZOZwHe ended up getting 55/56.... and in the comments I found another person 4 years ago with the same issue! Looks like Ill have to consider the 100% run just without the last number. Ive seen people open up Saturn game files in hex editors and so forth. Maybe I can hack the level data

Interesting, Its a shame you cant noclip on Saturn Quake, then at least you can se eif the last enemy was moved out of bounds with some sort of alteration in development. Yeah I actually even went around shooting rockets at every wall. I thought maybe somewhere in the last 20 years someone would have mentioned this on a forum when trying to 100% but probably just not many that cared for this version. Maybe I should email Ezra lol? It is kind of sad Im a few levels away from the end and my totals are 946/947 and 70/70 secrets :/

So Ive been trying to do a 100% Quake run which Ive never tried all these years. (100% kills and 100% secrets) However on level E3M6 Chambers of Torment I can only get 55/56 kills. I have played the level 5 times, combed every inch of the level and can not find the last enemy. All I can think of is that its some kind of glitch? Im using Paul Mode (inv) to play through the level hassle free over and over. But its upsetting because now Ive basically moved on at 760/761 kills more than 75% through the game! Not sure if anyone else wants to jump to level E3M6 and see if they can find all 56 enemies lol.

Finally added Courier Crisis to the collection at a convention this past week (Also got to meet the incredible Jeff Goldblum lol) This is a game I always wanted to try back in the day. I know its generally seen has pretty doo doo but I usually find myself liking things about bad games once I play them. I think the nostalgia of reading the reviews for it back in 1997 in magazines is kicking in a bit in my anticipation to try it.

Always get the urge to play through Quake Saturn once a year or so. Trying to do a 100% run (100% enemies and 100% secrets) on Normal to add to the fun. So far about half way through the game and 596/596 on kills and 58/58 on secrets. Love playing through this game every time. I think I find myself appreciating things like the dynamic lighting more each play through.

I love those old leaflets that have odd or unreleased stuff. I have a couple from the US from 1997 E3 that Ive never seen since that show off stuff like this.

My japanese copy of Alien Triology arrived yesterday. I played it already and I really like it so far. The atmosphere is great with a very nice Soundtrack. The controls are good too for such old game. Only the aiming is a bit tricky for me at the Moment. I am quite new to this early 3d shooter stuff, so I will need some time to adjust. One of the first games I got for my Saturn back in 97. Like you said the games atmosphere and soundtrack are amazing. They did a good job creating the feel of the movies and overall a decent job of using all 3 film assets over the course of the game. I think its even a bit underrated in the retro FPS group probably somewhat due to it really being a console based FPS instead of a PC first one. But it has most of the stuff I love about the older games in the genre. Plenty of levels, plenty of firepower and lots of secrets areas to discover. Also people generally seem to like the Saturn version better than the PS1 due the frame rate being a bit faster/more consistent despite being a bit darker (which honestly adds a bit more atmosphere accidentally)

Blazing Dragons is one of the few exceptions where the NA version the game is cheaper than the EU one. Yeah its not often. Although I did a quick look and it seems like the PAL version is only maybe slightly more. So not unreasonable.

Youll have to give Doom another try but it runs at a sluggish frame rate almost all of the time and the gun fires at a faster rate than the game is moving. So overall Saturn Doom just feels awkward.
Hexen has slowdown in parts but for the most part it runs well enough to play.
