I love me some Dark Savior. One of my favorite games for the system.
It's considered an RPG, but I guess it's tough to call it such. It has JRPG graphics and story telling, but the gameplay is more of a platformer than anything else.

Ah I remember the first and last time I played PDS was 2008. I remember the underground tunnels being the moment I started to fall in love with the game. Sorry if this is a soft spoiler but isn't this the first time we meet "her". I remember I was struggling a bit to really get into the game through the first disc. But the moment that happened I fell in love with the game. I LOVE the battle system. Its probably my favorite part of the game. I dont know if Ive ever mentioned it but there was a point late in the game I decided to use a walkthrough just to help me through a part (game really doesnt need it). I ended up reading a spoiler for something that happens in the game and I could never get over it. Even to this day. I really need to let it go and play it again. Its such a great game. It really is something special. From the moment I got on the dragon and flew through the canyon and watched the fish in the river I was hooked. There's something that's pure magic about the art style used. While the game design and philosophy is so modern. Look at the other RPGs that came out in the same year, Suikoden 2, Xenogears, Quest 64,or Star Ocean the Second Story. They all seem to have the same classic RPG feel. Instead of long and drawn out with a focus on grinding to a large extent. PDS was short and sweet, and always kept things fresh.

In that case, what's the upside to the Satiator vs a real ODE? Just being able to have it installed while also having a real optical drive for disks if you want?

It's not that much cheaper, is it? My Rhea was like, 130-140 iirc. The Fenrir is 120.
They also say if you get the trurip versions of the games most non-functioning games will work. Of course, they only tested the games for a few minutes.
The Satiator eh? Now that's something else. Since it's a plugin and not an ODE, would this decrease load times and perhaps fix some of the slowdown in games like SotN?

I see there's a hot new ODE that's hit the market recently. It's very enticing since it loads bin/cue files. The compatibility list is pretty impressive so far, but they only load the game and play it for a few minutes. Does anyone have any experience with this? 8bitmods.com/blog/fenrir-compatibility-list-redump/

There's some sort of magic in Dragon Force. I can't explain it. I suppose it's that mid 90's fantasy RPG feel. Definitely very charming and unique. But you're right, after you figure it out, it's basically just rock, paper, scissors.
You know, IIRC, I came up with this cheese strategy against archers and ranged attackers. I'd spread my men out the the sides, make them rush forward, then back to the sides, over and over, so as to decrease the surface area of my army. This allowed them to reach the archers without taking too many casualties.

That is surprising. It's one of my all time favorite games. The water section and underwater tunnels was one of my favorite parts visually. Am I crazy or does it just look gorgeous for its time/hardware?
It's a cliche to say, but in terms of gameplay pacing it's amazing how far ahead of its time it is. And there's no level grinding to speak of.

Nice collection you've got going there. How do you like Dark Savior? That's one of my all time favorites.

Is it tough to get the Rhea and the other one he put out?

I don't really like shmups, but I do like Galactic Attack and Cotton 2. I played the hell out of Galactic Attack back in highschool. I was so amazed you could flip the TV on its side and it would play better. It's a fairly easy shmup and super satisfying. Cotton 2 is just super cool. Having to manage which items you pick up and throwing enemies which gives you bonus points was a fun unique touch. Not to mention the visuals are bright and creative.

I've definitely got PDS running on an emulator... I don't remember which one or how I did it, this was several years back. A lot of folks here are more into collecting, but I can tell you google is your friend, it is possible to do, and good luck!

No, Tomb Raider was garbage then as it's garbage now.

I'm simply intrigued by the mechanics of capturing. The combat always seemed unfinished or an afterthought, so seeing some of the complexity behind captures and what they wanted to go for is really fun for me.

Love this thread. Dark Savior is one of my favorite Saturn titles. I never got into collecting the monsters though. What do the monsters do? Is it like a game of pokemon?
