Are there building instructions for the OSSC? As its "open source"? Or is this only from buckoa51?

OK just booted it up and it does come up with 720x240.. Guess I got lucky. I had no idea that this was unusual. It's a Samsung lcd hdtv from the UK. Would it be worth getting a upscaler if the tv natively supports 240?
Edit :I wonder if it is not unusual in the UK as most tvs have scart connection?

Full Rgb scart is the best quality image a Saturn will produce, and UK HD tvs all have this slot. I know in the USA you don't have scart so you need to mess about with upscalers.
I use a Samsung hdtv and don't have any lag or real issues with the image like that video showed. Maybe I've got lucky with my TV choice. The picture looks great on it.

I think it all depends on what size TV you have and how close you sit to it. There are guides out there that show the ideal size TV for your room space. I know some people get awful cheap tvs and even blu rays look awful on them. If you have a gigantic TV and you sit too close to it, you'll have problems.
Saturn over scart on my TV looks pretty awesome to be honest. It's how the Saturn was meant to be played. Very crisp image, 2d games look excellent as well. The Saturn isn't a HD console so any upscaler is going to have trade offs. The best picture you can get is through a rgb monitor, but if you have £1000 to spend on that then good luck to you.

You guys should consider buying UK tvs on ebay as nearly all of the new tvs have a scart port as well as component and hdmi

You only need about 20w worth of transformer, 100w is overkill but it will work. So you could get a cheaper option but yes, 110v transformer, or put a pal power board into a Japan saturn

Wow, so you can finally add a hdd to the dreamcast! People were playing around with the modem port last time I checked. Amazing how people are still making mods! Welcome to the board you'll enjoy the Saturn. It's a very unique console

You cleaned the disc? I found some of my discs coming out of storage didn't play until they were really cleaned up well. If it's not scratched then it should just be dirty

Don't worry about it, modchips don't let you go region free. That's what the action replay cart is for. I am collecting original JAP games due to the cost and generally better versions of games, but there is no point opening the entire system up to mod to 60hz and not fit a modchip whilst you're there.
Main reason is that I've always wanted to play Shining force III scenario 2 and 3, and the translated versions are obviously cdr only. This Dark Saviour was just to test the chip works as I pointed out before. Saturn cases are also often crap and the discs get scratched very easily even when put away. Its another reason to use cdr backups, put the real disc away in a disc holder and put the cdr in the case.

Also one thing that was annoying me, is that the Saturn would not boot if the metal RF shield was not screwed down. This made testing a pain in the ass. It looks like the RF shield covers some ground points on the board, so most likely its used as a ground. Do you have to put the shield on every time you want to test the motherboard? Or is there a way to get around this? Good job on fixing it, but a pirated copy of Dark Saviour? Aren't you a little old for that shit? Stealing is for penniless kids. Not going to get into a flame war over this, but unless Climax Entertainment re-release this game for the Saturn I'm not stealing from them at all. The game retails for well over £50 in this country still which doesn't go to the games creators but a second hand reseller, but that's what a mod chip is for isn't it? The whole point was to test that the mod chip works. No need to throw in the "penniless kids" insult. And I'll add that most copies on ebay by now are fairly scratched so how long will they last for? Thats what cdr backups are for.
