So that 3 year old TV features all the main points I listed? Is that what you're claiming? that tv has a tremendous internal scaler with barely any input lag. that is all you want for retro systems. Got it, you don't know and you're just blowing smoke. You're taking our commander-in-chief's approach to answering questions, no actual answers, just adjective buzz words.

I'm not aware of ANY Sony sets that even handle 240p as progressive, let alone a 4k set that has a scaler optimised for graphics rather than video. Yeah I call BS on this too until I see actual proof, sorry.

I'd love to give this TV a try, although as it turns out, OSSC is cheaper at c£150. Lets say I want to buy a new TV (other than this one) and I don't know if the new one can handle older resolutions well - if I have an OSSC or FrameMeister, this isn't a problem! Now hold on while I buy an HDMI to Composite downscaler so I can hook up the OSSC to my CRT television...

I don't know about you guys but if I bought a 4K TV, it would be play 4K content, not to test whether it can upscale 25 year old game consoles properly. Well, I wouldn't worry about it either, because I'd be plugging up the Framemeister which allows me only to be concerned with quality of picture and low input lag while shopping. The only thing I'm worried about is whether I want to play Virtua Fighter 2 or Darius Gaiden or Digital Pinball. I use no scalers. Playing the games is more important than worrying about how the games play.

You'd want the open source down converter for that, coming soon.. maybe!
Might as well just use an emulator then.

Yeah I call BS on this too until I see actual proof, sorry. This is the same guy who wasn't aware of the glaringly obvious game engine quirks in Burning Rangers. Despite video evidence and period reviews stating as such. So from now on I'm going to take any "visual" impressions he has with a grain of salt.

Kind of envy folks that don't care if their games look crap on their new TVs, if I was more like that I'd have saved a lot of money... mind you I'd have never become mr OSSC either I guess

My last dorm room came equipped with one of those Samsung 240p HD sets. I'm in the US so there was no SCART, but my Genesis is modded for component out the back and it looked sharp and beautiful, way better than when I connected it to my Sony LCD which gave a really blurry result.

Thousands of dollars in shelf decorations, but a cruddy consumer CRT running composite. I'd rather spend the money on a quality AV setup. I'd say those of us looking for a quality gaming experience are actually more concerned with playing the games. I think it's better to be more concerned over picture quality, than packaging quality. The amount of money I would have spent on a physical Saturn library would pay for multiple ODE's and upscalers many times over. so, I think I'm good to buy a quality upscaler and Rhea. Hyper Duel on the big screen, with sharp visuals? why yes, please..

Are there building instructions for the OSSC? As its "open source"? Or is this only from buckoa51?

Are there building instructions for the OSSC? As its "open source"? Or is this only from buckoa51? This page should have the answers you're looking for. You can build your own. I'm no stranger to a soldering iron, but I did the research and it's a daunting task that takes a lot of time. You have to order the parts yourself, study the instructions, make it, troubleshoot it yourself because there's no way you'll do it perfectly first time round etc etc (though it would save you some money I guess). Maybe you're up for the challenge, but it's far too advanced for me. The other plus-side is that if you build it yourself then you can have HDMI out instead of DVI-D, though DV-D to HDMI cables are so cheap and common that it's negligible. I cannot recommend getting on the waiting list enough at VGP - they've got great service. I got my OSSC yesterday and am in love.

Does anyone know if this has been tested with an x68000 at any stage? Would be quite interested in knowing if it behaves itself and could sway my decision to order one in.

A lucky X68k owner eh? Yes, it's been tested with the X68ks low and medium res modes and found to work well.
