@ NeoGeoNinja- Yes, I meant 2D Fighters, I must confess I have always called them beat em ups but then it struck me that beat em ups could encompass Streets of Rage/Final Fight games too (which I also love incidently!). Thanks for your advice mate, I will check them out.

I just saw that mate! We must have been on this thread at exactly the same time . I appreciate the fair points that you made in your edit, I do see where you are coming from regarding football titles particularly if you aren't really into the sport. There are tons and tons of football games of varying quality around and owing to the franchise nature of most titles they are updated so often that the older games can be bought for next to nothing. As I am a sucker for them I end up buying them no matter what the format!! Generally I can always see a good idea in even the most flawed game (though even I drew the line at the travesty that was Sensible Soccer 98 on the Ps1 which was so bad I nearly cried!) it's a nerdishness that has afflicted me since my 8bit days and one I have yet to find a cure for! On a different tangent I would like a bit of advice from you regarding 2d beat em ups- given that I have an un-modified Pal Saturn (modification or Action replay to follow) what would be your recommendation in the genre?

Andretti Racing, World League Soccer 98, Fifa97, Euro 96, Athlete Kings. WELL... at least Athlete Kings is good! Quite footballcentric I know, I'm aware you are not a footballing chap! I love Athlete Kings, I would go as far as to say it's the best game of it's type I have played.

I agree with bradcap1 regarding Wipeout, it looks a bit more glossy on the Ps1 but never seems to flow in the same way that the Saturn does. I have used standard pads on both versions and I have to say that I like both pads (abhor steering wheels) and I can report with reasonable confidence that the Saturn version seems more playable and ultimately more fun. Just my opinion of course but then forums are about opinion! Regarding Virtua Racing I have never played any versions other than the arcade and the Ps2 version that was on that Sega compilation a few years back and I quite enjoyed it.

You are spot on, it's funny how what you are brought up with you get used to and take for granted, my wife is American and loves London, the very town I have lived in all my life yet she has shown me more places of interest in the old city in the 10 years we have been together than I have seen (or paid attention too in my whole life) I guess fresh eyes have a fresh perspective.
