Got myself a multi region, 50-60hz reset switched MK1 PAL Saturn. Should have done this earlier! The Japanese games run in full screen and that bit faster and smoother. PAL Daytona USA in 60hz mode is a bit too fast for my shoddy reflexes though

Yes Plastic case Saturn games are alot haarder to come across, especially those by third parties and you will almost certainly pay more. I've seen plastic case Panzer Dragoon Zwei a few times on Ebay, I've hardly seen plastic case Saturn Bomberman. When it does appear it's usually in the £90-£100 price range. If you're worried about durability, you could always sticky back plastic a cardboard case. All my Cardboard Case Saturn games have been sticky back plastic for durability. Gives the case a nice chic & shine and feels real good in the hands too. Hi Sych, thanks for that. Yes there's a plastic case Bomberman for sale at £109 now. I offered him £60 and he told me to get lost basically. Thought he was deluded, but perhaps not. Regardless I would not pay such a premium for a case! I can see the benefit of the sticky plastic on the card boxes , will think about it.

Does anyone know, is the PAL version in a plastic case genuinely harder to find and/or more expensive than the card one? I prefer the plastic cases for durability, but sellers seem to be demanding a lot more for them.
Same question with Panzer Dragoon Zwei as well...

I'm rapidly filling a shipping container with Fifa '97s at £1 a pop. Can you do a video saying it's the absolute best Fifa ever and that it had Messi in before he was even a footballer? I'll give you 10% of the profits yeah?

Wow and yet another great local/in the wild Saturn score. 3rd one in the span of a couple weeks. Really didn't think these deals were still out there. Of all places a Pawn Shop had a Saturn with 5 import games and MK Trilogy. I was blown away. This was also the year I said Id try to get into the Capcom fighters on the Saturn. In one shot I paid $100 for all of this plus a few other games. Never thought Id pick up 5 of the fighters in one swoop plus the rare MK Trilogy. Xmen COTA Ill probably sell since Id rather have the US copy. Glad to have gotten Vampire Savior and MSH vs. SF.
Good work Derek! Those are some of the best fun you can have on the Saturn. X-men vs SF is so so good in particular.

Played this for the first time today, almost completed it as well (easy mode obvs).
I like it. Intuitive and simple gameplay. Interesting settings, loved the mission with you dive bombing downward.
The graphics are messy though aren't they? Given what the Saturn managed in games like Burning Rangers and Radiant Silvergun, this is some very lazy porting of the arcade game. The explosions look like a Lego game, but not in a good way!

NHL Breakaway 1998 is a fun title too. Much different than the EA titles, and plays a little wonky until you get used 2 it, but it can be a blast and has a fun atmosphere. Has some over the top organ playing and graphics (the puck has a coloured stream). NHL Faceoff games on the Playstation 1 are some of the easiest and most fun NHL games I've played (For context I own NHL 91-99, 06, 08-12, and about 15 other none EA NHL games) Gosh that's a lot of hockey games!!

Well bugger me, what have i just picked up? A complete PAL copy of NHL All Stars '98 for the princely sum of £20. And not eBay, but the first Retro game store I tried- buried in the back stock room of the excellent Vintage Gamer near Halesowen, West Mids.

Another one here for 16bit EA Hockey, also love the MegaCD version. If only the front cover on MegaCD was as good as the series, white and shite. If I remember correct the CD version was the first one by EA to feature atmos build-up in-game organ music? Well, I do remember organ tunes in NHLPA 93, perhaps the CD sound was much better quality? What a great game that was. Fast, fun, simple to play. Quite hard to score and satisfying when you did. Siren when you score, punch ups, that ice machine going round at half time- so many nice touches. Introduced such Americanisms and hockey terms as Icing, Face Off, Power play, puck et al to this naive young English boy!

Thanks guys. I'd prefer a Saturn game, naturally. The PAL one looks really rare and expensive. Don't think many Brits were buying Saturn hockey games anymore in '98!
Will probably go for a nice cheap disc only US version when one shows up on eBay.

I used to love EA Hockey and NHLPA 93 on the Mega Drive.
Which, if any, of the Saturn hockey games are up to the standard of those classics. I'm talking fast, fun game play rather than accurate player names, stats etc.
Alternatively is there anything worthy on the PS1?

I have to finish PDS. I'm not sure why I haven't. It's one of the best RPGs I've ever played and one of the prettiest Saturn games ever. Probably the best looking. I guess I just know once it's over it's over. Once it's completed I won't have anything to look forward to. The game has been hyped forever for me and it's absolutely lived up to that hype. I even played an hour or two of it on a Saturn emulator 4-5 years ago before shutting it off, because I wanted to play it on Saturn. Me too, gonna finally get beyond disc 1 over the coming weeks and try and complete it.

I had a PAL x3 at one time years ago. I do not recall thinking the pictures were blurry. I suppose that could be common in printing. Are you suggesting you got a repro coverart? You'd have to scan it for further opinion. Slightly related I gave X4 for Saturn a quick 30 minute play a few nights ago and fell in love with it. Smooth and looks great. Gets pretty hard but well its a MM game. I remember X4 being night and day compared to X3. Makes sense since X3 being originally a SNES title. I wonder why Capcom chose to not bring MMx4/MM8 to PAL if they already brought over MMx3. The other 2 are vastly superior. Yes a repro cover was my concern. Though the rest of the cover looks really good. It's odd. X4 is on my list to get one day. I dont think there was much demand for Mega Man in PAL regions, at least on Saturn. It's expensive here as they sold so few. That must be why they didn't bother with the others.
