That video puts me off of scalers altogether. It just highlights that all of them have issues, even when you chain in like 3 of them. Your annoyance should be with planned obsolescence. In a perfect world, modern 4K sets would still have the analog inputs that were still common just a decade ago and handle the older signals with care. There wouldn't be a need for all the extra A/V equipment.

I know this is a weird question to ask in this thread but XRGB mini or should I try this for Saturn? I signed up for the newsletter to get on the list anyway. I haven't tried any of these better upscalers yet but know my Trinitron won't last forever. Too be fair to the OSSC, it isn't really an upscaler. It's a line doubler. It would basically supplant any of the previous XRGB units. A true upscaler is going to take whatever analog signal you throw it and condition it to be a true HD compliant signal. I'd say specifically for the Saturn, I'd still recommend the Framemeister. Ignoring all the fancy schmancy advanced Framemeister tricks, as well as display compatibility issues and having to do some light MacGyvering with the OSSC's sound.. I'd say the most beneficial feature to Saturn games is its outstanding deinterlacing, which it does with a quickness. Some of my favorite Saturn games are in 480i. Pretty much all the good 3D fighers, games like digital pinball: Necronomicon and Astra Superstars as well. The framemeister does a damn good job trying to get these to look as close to 480P as possible. The OSSC's deinterlacing isn't "bad" per se, rather it's bare bones simple. You can also bypass deinterlacing completely, and just pass the hot potato to your display to deal with it. Both devices will cause a drop in signal to your display when games shift from 240P to 480i. There's quite a few Saturn games that do this, most however don't interfere with gameplay. The framemeister will take longer to recover though. I'd say watch My Life in Gaming's view of framemeister alternatives and make up your own mind. They cover the OSSC starting at 18:20.

What do you mean "convert to english"? Unless there's a translation patch available, the game will still be in Japanese. All you're doing is changing the region the console detects so it loads the disc.

I guess there is the unreleased beta's in the form of Sonic Xtreme. I think he literally means games about Pirates (like Sid Meier's Pirates!) Yes, there are actually. Good luck trying to play them though: Uncharted Waters: New Horizons Daikoukai Jidai II Daikoukai Jidai Gaiden

I've got a test for you. Play through a course in Fighters Megamix and sit and watch the credits roll after the final bout. Be interested to hear what your tv does.

buck, you have any knowledge of this thing as far as normalizing the ossc's line triple mode for any display? If it accepts the OSSC line triple mode, seems like another option besides the DVDO devices to conform the signal. It's smaller too. I have no idea on associated lag though. www.hdfury.com/shop/hdfury4/hdfury-ivs-basic-kit/

as others said, no it doesn't turn your PC into a Saturn. The only similarities between the two is the fact the card uses quads instead of triangles, just like the saturn. The few sega games that show improvements when using it are still PC games.

I meant the framemeister, if that wasn't clear.

Doing my best, I've got 500 more coming early 2017 then if demand stays strong the batches will be at least 500 strong after that too. Thing is though, OSSC really wasn't designed to replace the FM, it's a different approach with its own advantages and limitations. It'd be a shame for retroheads if there was no XRGB4 or similar full-framebuffer based upscaler to replace the FM. Even if it wasn't designed as a replacement, I still imagine you'll see crazy demand. Actual eBay auctions (not BINs) are going north of 400 USD. and this is just a lull between the last big batch. Think when the supply dries up for good.

Bucky, I sure hope you're ready for an onslaught of new order$ next year with Micomsoft pulling the plug on the xrgb mini (and possibly done with the line altogether) You might be the only game in town come later 2017.

I would expect 240P games to look good. You really need to try high-res (480i) saturn games like Virtua Fighter 2 and see if the deinterlacing is acceptable to you or not.
