I just got done clearing the Sand Labyrinth in Shining Wisdom. Kind of an annoying place. Before that I dove into Gradius II and got further than I ever have before, to the end of the moai stage. I always play on normal with slowdown turned off.

My last dorm room came equipped with one of those Samsung 240p HD sets. I'm in the US so there was no SCART, but my Genesis is modded for component out the back and it looked sharp and beautiful, way better than when I connected it to my Sony LCD which gave a really blurry result.

Is the drop in support for old inputs and signals about saving money or about controlling your experience with it?

I just spent some time with Darius II. I got further than I ever have before (I finally got past that stupid crab boss without dying, and without a shield!), cracked my previous high score (I got >2,200,000).
I think I prefer this one to Darius Gaiden. Your armaments are a bit more satisfying. The lasers make a huge difference in giving you coverage. The music is YM2151 goodness. Once you learn to use the zoom feature effectively, you can make it through the tight areas with ease.

Yes, almost every shooter that made it to the US seems to hold a high price. Although since Acclaim released them they stay "reasonable" CIB Darius Gaiden in good condition like this probably $70-80 USD. Puzzle Fighter $75-95. In fact Dandy since I know you're a JPN Saturn guy, Ill run down current market prices of the games in my haul based on my best guess. Alot of this stuff has gotten a bit out of hand in past years. - D $40 - Contra $100 - C Knight 1 $25 - C Knight 2 $50 - Lunacy $175 - Ghen War $15 - Mr Bones $40 - Batman Forever $100 - Puzzle Fighter $85 - In the Hunt $90 - Darius Gaiden $70 - SF Collection $150 - Earthworm J 2 $65 - Three Dirty Dwarves $75 - Galaxy Fight $70 - Last Bronx $35 - Casper $40 - WWS 98 $35 Interesting to know, thanks. My most recent Saturn haul was Bulk Slash satakore rerelease Darius Gaiden Layer Section Afterburner II Darius II DG was cheaper than the NA version. I'm glad to have Layer Section again, as that was one of the NA games I had back when I first started collecting for the Saturn. I was lucky to have a game shop near my dorm that had a ton of Saturn games.

Nice, Derek. Are Darius Gaiden and Puzzle Fighter pricey ones these days? I keep forgetting those got a NA release. It's always weird to see old, particularly early 3D, sports games that are expensive.

Huh, that is weird. What revision do you guys have? I'll check mine and post later. Thankfully the rest of the game isn't impacted by whatever bug this is.

Why not play the US version, isn't this a game you'd want in English? Interestingly enough I think this has to be one of the only games that has 3 different translations. Working Designs thankfully handled the US version. Ive heard from more than a few people that their entertaining/funny translation made the game actually enjoyable compared to the more safe PAL script. The Japanese version is waaaay less expensive, and I only have a Japanese Saturn. You're talking to someone who has played through Shining Force CD in Japanese. In both the Saturn and Sega CD, I prefer Japanese releases across the board because they're usually much cheaper and they use regular jewel cases that don't get destroyed/disc doesn't come loose and get destroyed in shipping. I'm perfectly willing to deal with a language barrier if I'm saving a ton of money. I have Shining Force III part 1 that I plan on tackling sometime in the future. Plus in the case of the Shining games, there's Shining Force Central to help with the script.

Does anyone else have the Japanese version of Shining Wisdom?
I have it, and I've noticed that the game does not play the intro video. I boot the game up, it goes to the produced by or under license from SEGA, screen goes black, I hear the ominous music, but no video. If I press start, the title screen appears and the game itself runs fine.
As a reference, I just popped in the Gradius Deluxe Pack and the intro FMV played as normal.
Also, there is no "Sonic Software Planning" screen before the game either.
I'm using an HST-3200 and if I remember correctly, this also happened on my old US Saturn with a PAR.

How hard is it to actually get a rhea or any of that guy's products? I've been reading the comments on his website and there are a ton of frustrated people who've been trying to get that or a phoebe or a gdemu for years with no success. I subscribed to his RSS on every device I use and have it open on a tab all day at work, so I don't think I'll miss any updates. How long are the orders usually open for once they go live? Are we talking a couple hours or a couple minutes?

Shouldn't he try raising or lowering the drive before replacing it? It sounds like the laser still can read a disc, it might just not be at the right height to focus properly. Zyrobs can weigh in.

Thanks zyrobs. I may just wait for when he opens preorders again. I'd rather get a hold of one sooner than later.

I picked up some Saturn games for the first time in a year last week, all imports. I got Afterburner II, Bulk Slash (satakore version), Darius Gaiden, and Layer Section (also satakore). All winners. I think Darius might be my favorite shooter out of all the ones I have for it.

I've noticed that the blank jewel cases I bought in bulk from Office Depot were really poor quality. The plastic felt so thin and flimsy, almost like paper. The jewel cases that my Japan Saturn and Mega CD games come in feel so much thicker and sturdier. I don't bother replacing them anymore unless they're cracked or damaged.
