For the different files: - 1st.bin file is the core code to launch the game, so this is normal it is different from US to PAL. - item.txt, just a plain text file - NBG3.SPR probably some minor modifications I can make par files (with subdir support) for all the files found on LF3 if you want. And if you use Multipar you can check easily if the files from your copy is identical. I can also make full export with SRP so you could also verify all stuff match. Or if you prefer, par files for both isos, better if you can rip your cds. Audio tracks is not useful for the test.

ok, so burnt on Sega Saturn CD-R and bought from a Sega employee. I think it was the same (type of) discs that were bought by Oldergames.com, and then released on L&F3: IP dated from 15/07/1998 v1.000 and iso created at 15/07/1998 16:39:55 (for CD1) / 16:18:35 (for CD2). You could check if yours is the same version.
Btw, great item to have.

You can get the US version if you wait. About every 1-2 years one pops up on Ebay. They are on official Sega Gold discs. Im guessing a decent amount of them were floating around SOA offices before the release as test copies. I only paid a little over a 100 for mine and realistically the NTSC US version of Deep Fear is the best version (English and full speed) Hmm, tell me more about this. I never saw an official Sega Gold Discs for Deep Fear US, only CDR on Lost and Found Volume 3.

Sega-Saturn-promo-silver-discs.html"promo versions of games are issued in very small numbers directly by the publishers to retailers and reviewers slightly ahead of the official release of the game in the actual shops. As such, their rarity can make them collectible for particular titles." ; ) Exactly

Also, I was quite surprised to learn that the Photo CD Operating System came in a double case. What possible reason could there have been for this, or maybe Sega intended to leave this space for you to put a disc of pictures as a way of encouraging the format's support? It was needed for the French release as it was packed with an additional cd: Photo CD -Nymphéas. I don't know if they choose the case accordingly for all European releases, despite other countries do not have an extra cd packed-in.

CDMage is useful to import sectors and so it is easy to blank multiple audio tracks in one time only, instead of doing this track by track. Yes, do not use CDMage to extract audio tracks that you will manipulated and burn back on CDR afterwards (in this case, you will also need to create yourself the cue file).

it also works, with a few extra steps If you have Audacity or any other audio software, this is easier to replace audio tracks like that. CDMage is an old software, free, and very useful. You could do a lot of stuff on image with it.

For which game ? If all the BGM are located in audio tracks, what you could do is: - rip your game in bin/cue format (raw mode eventually) - create a big bin file full of 00, with a size of more than what you need to replace in next steps (so bigger than all the audio tracks combined) - use cdmage (I can provide it) - replace all the audio track with blank ones (00'ed) by using the import sectors option, by choosing the first sector of audio track till the EOF and by using the big bin file created 2 step above - burn your newly bin/cue

I think the big cardboard version came before the standard EU case version, as the manual in the latter version in also squared and not rectangular, they probably used old stock. You talked about plastic case for this game, did you ever see one ?

You can go further with rarity on PAL games. Think about localized version of some games. There are some really rare and HTF games: FIFA 98 Portuguese (very rare) Jonah Lomu Rugby EU version (not the UK and French common versions) (very rare) Hexen Spanish/Italian (uncommon) Marvel Super Heroes Spanish/Italian (uncommon) other Spanish/Italian version of games (uncommon) La Mansión de las Almas Ocultas Spanish (uncommon) And Plastic Case rereleased version of games as barryburton (I think) stated in another post Not counting the Classic games released in Portugal with an additional manual. You know in Kung Fu films when the hero beats up a biggish, roughish guy near the end, but then an even bigger badder beast of a man pops up for the final showdown? That's Madroms. The master of Saturn game knowledge, much respect. Anyway, I didn't even dare to separate out the different country versions. I've collected a few plastic case versions, perhaps Exhumed or SF Alpha 2 were the hardest to find of mine. I think Sych has been looking for some for years- maybe Bug Too for example? Saturn Bomberman is also HTF in plastic Case, and also very expensive. For a list of known European games with standard and plastic case released: www.satakore.com/minorrevisions.php (look at European games the description "This game has 2 different cases."). You can also see other variants known. Another list for revisions: www.satakore.com/revisions.php Both lists are WIP, we may find some new revisions/variants in the future. It is really a hard task! I don't have Bug Too listed as a game rereleased with plastic case. Any picture anyone so I can be sure about its existence before adding it to the site ?
