Its not that I don't like the gameplay of PrimalRage - I do. Its not that the special moves are hard to pull off, its that there awkward! Example - To do Blizzards Ice Breath you need to hold buttons Z and B - Then press away then toward. Now, If you look at your controller its IMPOSSIBLE to hold your controller traditionally and press those two buttons. You have to use your controller like an Arcade stick almost, with your hands ontop of the pad, rather then holding it underneath. Maybe the game would play better with an arcade stick. Its horrible though with the control pad. I still play Primal Rage, ive just given up and doing the special moves. If they just adopted the more simple special moves like in StreetFighter/Mortal Kombat - Example - To do Ice Beath - down, towards quarter circle - A button. Then Primal Rage would of been 10X better. Bit of a shame.....

I will agree the moves were awkwardly programmed. Depending on who you talk to the Saturn version is considered to be the best arcade to home conversion but its not perfect. PSX version is nice and I forget what other version hold up. Oddly I Think the Jaguar CD version is decent. Has to be one of the most ported games of that time lol

I hadn't played a saturn football game in about ten years and decided to get the 3 that I have out and give them a bash. It's a fact, euro 96 is the worst game in history. I put swws 97 on after and it felt like it was 2 generations ahead It really is terrible isn't it! I actually feel a bit dirty cuz I purchased it 2 weeks ago! Haha. I paid $3aud for it. I purchased it more as a football fan and it being a licensed major tournament game. I haven't played it since I purchased it and I doubt I ever will. Interesting... The game was actually a huge critical success back in the day. Check out this review from issue 7 of Maximum, for example. (Note: Since it doesn't specify in the review, Maximum's ratings are on a scale of one to five stars.)

Can't exactly say the unnecessary space between enhance + d filled me with much confidence from the outset...

Hahah! Thanks for the read mate. Quite hilarious really. While the FIFAs on Saturn weren't great. I'd take FIFA96 over Euro96 anyday.

Skeleton Warriors. It is mindless fun the first few times, but it gets boring REALLY fast. I haven't played since the day I got it. The only real saving grace is that it's an arcady 2D sidescroller like Splatterhouse mixed with Castlevania, but you can do better on Saturn(including Castlevania itself lol).

The other saving grace is the Tommy Tallarico soundtrack. It's truly exceptional - one of the more obscure, but amazing soundtracks of the era. Some PAL copies are glitched though. Something must have gone wrong in the burning process back in the day, as both my current copy and the one I used to rent when I was a kid have a certain point where the music stops. Both copies, same music track. Sucks, because I had to find an ISO all these years later to listen to the rest of the music, haha.

Any Saturn game trying to be fully 3D I find awful. The Panzer Dragoon games are "fully 3D" and they're great! Same with Tomb Raider; sure the Saturn version doesn't look as good overall as the PS1 version but I think it looks fine and the Saturn exclusive water effects are really something to behold. Thunderhawk 2 is visually identical to the PS1 version and runs better IMO. Bulk Slash is a gorgeous looking game despite its short draw distance. I get what you're saying, there are plenty of really bad looking 3D games on the Saturn (even by the standards of the time) but there are also some really impressive games out there that defy what most people think the Saturn was capable of.

I've found that I don't care too much for shooters that are too 3D. This isn't limited to the Saturn either, but also on the PlayStation. Otherwise great games like Souky or Thunder Force V are pretty ugly compared to their 16 bit predecessors. I hear Souky gets better, so I'm going to give it a chance, though playing it I just wanted to play Layer Section instead.

Generally people find the fully 3D stuff from that era as not aging well. 2D games aged nicely and if anything are more appreciated now. Astal was an overlooked and seemingly outdated game to most back then but now its more respected than most 3D games.
However my nostalgia is heavy for the 32/64 bit polygon era. It was one of the biggest leaps in gaming history... from 2D sprites to 3D polygon games. Its likely nostalgia is needed to enjoy alot of the games from this era but to me I got super excited when the Saturn started pumping out more polygon games late in its life. I just always wanted to see the system do them well enough even though it wasnt easy to pull off.
Again maybe its just the nostalgia but as much as I love the great 2D games, Panzer Saga, Quake, Burning Rangers really amaze me with what they pulled off with polygons. The entire Panzer Dragoon series in fact. Just about anything Sega did in house was and is great to look at for me. Diehard Arcade, Fighting Vipers, Megamix, VF etc., Shining Force 3 (what Ive seen of it), Virtua Cop (HOTD would probably be listed here had AM2 done it), Sega Rally, Steep Slope Sliders, All Star Hockey, WWS, and so on. There were a few 3rd party companies that knew how to push polygons a bit. Capcom and definitely Lobotomy Software.
Had the Saturn survived (in the West) even 1 more year... lets say up until the Western Dreamcast release, I bet we would have seen a couple dozen more top notch Polygonal 3D games.

I agree that shmups are better in 2D form but I admit that Einhander for PS1 is one that really holds up IMO.
