Just to eliminate the obvious. Is the disc JPN or NTSC-U ? Is Saturn Console manufactured for JPN or USA?
FWIW my JPN copy runs fine on my Saturn when it's switched to JPN machine region and US copy runs fine when the Saturn is switched to US machine region.

Very interesting to see! There was a grey production prototype floating around in private hands quite a number of years ago with silk-screening on the drive door that was a big SEGA logo in the classic typeset with Saturn underneath in a weird italic font. There used to be a video of it on Dailymotion from when the owner at the time took it with them to Classic Gaming Expo one year. believe that was the lump of plastic design mock up. this sample console contains the motherboard and CD-ROM drive although the motherboard itself is hybrid of features from Sophia development system motherboard and components not used in the retail version.

so how well these freeBIOS chip work? My Saturn has the ROM chip on the IC socket on the motherboard so replacing the ROM chip is simple swap.

Saturn is one of rare console where S-Video is really good compared to other consoles in the same era. if you have the necessary pieces do try it.

That GigaDrive was the hardware evaluation model never meant for the final design. The Golden one is the simple design mockup sample to see the look of the case design. The Saturn console was meant to be Golden colour but due to the painting issue Sega had they decided to release with the primer coat only which was the grey in colour and the rest was the history.

come on! you can't possibly dismiss the humour in the Discworld. Out of all these Discworld is the one I always go back to. Shame they didn't published the 3rd in series on Saturn.

that's interesting. I thought In The Hunt checks the hardware region coding of the console itself and hence why even with the ARP cart it won't run unless you have the matching region Saturn or set the hardwired region switch at the matching region.

That cable you bought will work fine on all saturns, its only issue is that it will switch your tv to 16:9 mode if it supports that. Looks like that's the same cable as the one I use on my Japanese Grey Saturn as well as White Saturn. I'm using RGB->HDMI converter on my PC Monitor and have no issue.

my understanding is those cheap cartridges have the circuit board pin connector edge not piled but rather crude straight cut. If you compare those with the circuit board from the Sega's own memory cart you can see the difference clearly. I use the ultrafine polishing stick to carefully sand those edges.
