MIK, your extensive understanding of Daytona USA's mechanics plus knowledge of the (very subtle) differences between its Model 2 and Saturn versions makes you a perfect candidate for membership into Team Marubaku... and I've not even covered your lap times, which sound absolutely fantastic - if only they were still active or recruiting, 'eh?! I've always play my Sega Racers very serious and hardcore even and always thought all Sega fans thought the same, but in general most are along for the beautiful journey. I would find this out when OutRun2 hit XBOX1 with only a handful of people taking the game up seriously and we all became good friends. We were all at one time on Gamefaqs.com I used to go by the gamertag RED SCORPION, but as this name was blocking peoples view sat above my car in OutRun2 I changed it to F40, thee car I used the most. So yeah I and some friends hammered OutRun2, OutRun2006 & OutRun Online Arcade but I've always had my background of playing console versions such as Sega Rally & Daytona USA to the best of my ability. Team Marubaku are great at what they do and I was a member of their forum long ago back in the OutRun2 & SP era. We were part of the wider world in truth for playing the XBOX version and did not fit in, but of course they had a Japanese only forum where everyone else was blocked from seeing. We always gave thanks to their video replays tho! For a laugh, me, SEGASPENCE, RJAY63, Noobsibot and a couple of others we would call our self's TEAM AVIT. Nothing serious was ever done, but name only like if you did something good then we would say AVIT in that English tongue in cheek way. Of course you can find other vids I posted from the above link. Another friend still keen on Dreamcast that might be of interest is RJAY63. He has done some good stuff with Daytona USA 2001, MSR & Vanishing Point! Link: www.youtube.com/user/RJAY63 I may make some Saturn Daytona USA replays one day, but as you know you really need to grind at it for a while to sink your mind back in to the 20fps world of racing. I mean one blink and you crash type of thing until you get used to it again. One day I might. cheers any way.

Yes you can get 1st place on all 3 tracks on the hardest AI & Timer settings on the original 1995 Daytona USA for Sega Saturn. This is what makes the original Satrun version so friggin awesome because if you love to race the AI the Saturn version can not be beat! 777 Speedway is a proper tease as you need the almost perfect race rolling I recall 16 sec lap times ever lap. Yes you can get 1st place with-out touching the Sonic wall too!! First of all you need to set the pad up properly. A - 1st gear X - 2nd gear Y - 3rd gear B - 4th gear Z - View up C - view down Right Shoulder Button - Gas Left Shoulder Button - Brake I use hood view personally. First of all the Sonic turn can be taken in gears 1/3/4 which is the safest way, keep tapping the gas as you edge round to the straight. Before you gear change tho, counter steer OUT/IN and then do a 1/3/4 gear change! Unlike the arcade machine where 2nd gear would activate a proper drift, on Satrun it's 1st to do the same thing. It will give you a more meaty drift. In fact if you keep the gas full on you can get the car to drift mental side ways just doing a 4/1/4 but there is a good chance your spin out. It is much easier to get 1st place using the Saturn's steering wheel. Not generally know is that using the SAT wheel the game now features the arcades oversteer. This means when you pass the pit exit you can force steer-in just like the arcade and cut the corner even more! This is something a PAD can not do. To replicate the force over steer on PAD it will cost you a little in speed, but if your passing the pit exit at say 325kph and know your going to hit the wall then do a very quick 4/1/4 to pull the car in. Your drop a couple of kph but it will keep you in play and if the pit exit is busy with AI your soon pick the speed back up. So not only does the SAT wheel have the forced over steer feature, it is much easier to hold the sonic turn and you can do 4/1/4 in stead with the wheel. Yes no wall touching what so ever and 16 sec lap times, even a 15sec if your lucky every lap will get you first place!! It's harder on a PAD to get 1st place but it can be done. It's all about making the most out of the sonic turn, slip streaming the AI and having a perfect clean race. Your be looking at 16sec lap times again. It can be done on pad with no wall touching believe me just as I was saying it is a proper tease and so challenging that it offers endless replay value just trying. I can do sub 3min times on Dinosaur Canyon easy, but I'm sure you know going up hill on Sat Daytona USA is slower than the acrade. This infact makes it almost impossible to catch the Sega Texted Grass corner with a proper drift as you cant get 300kph+++ going in to it. Again the last corner is tricky, but you can get 1st place on the hardest settings too. The AI are on your back all the time and one mistake like 777 speedway will cost you big time. Hope that helps. Indeed all the Youtube video's of Saturn Daytona USA are pathetic in comparison to what I know can be done. Having said that, if you set the pad up like I say above so now that all the gears can be selected just like the arcade machine you will in fact discover a game you have never played before until now. Daytona USA Sega Saturn is king when it comes to racing the AI and with some practice I'm sure your find that out soon enough. GOOD LUCK! PS. If you want some extra weight to what I say then watch how I do 777 speedway on Dreamcast Daytona 2001 and this is with the official DC pad. Fast forward vid to 2:55 to see my replay. Your see how I counter steer before taking the sonic turn anyway, I do the same on Saturn Daytona USA. Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3LmdFRKmGU

Sega were the leading arcade machines specialists with everything hard wired and I played my machines with the same respect as Sega put in to them - Hardcore. You can already guess I never needed to look twice at them as I was not going buy them. First thing that came to mind back then was time delay from pad to machine and then what I would see on screen even if it was milliseconds, lol. Battery life would of been another issue as I used to get the miles in on my Saturn daily. Another factor was if the pad was not facing the machine you were screwed if you felt you needed to adjust your pants playing Quake or Res Evil haha! So as an original Saturn user I see them as a beautiful luxury item that's more a novelty and of course for anyone who sits 6+ feet away from the screen. My problem was/is I sat/sit arms length away from Saturn and Screen, always had my own space for gaming with no one else but me and the cat tripping up on them. I would not put faith in a wireless pad until the XBOX 360 rolled out... Even then I had my doubts but I soon learned there was nothing to worry about.

Hi mate and welcome to SS:UK. MIK - I'd disagree with your critique of PD, tbh. I think it has a lot of replay value (both 1 and Zwei) and can be picked up for very little outlay. PDS, maybe is a little overpriced, but is still well worth playing. Let me rewind the clock, yes I said PD Saga in thought, but it never came out that way did it. ;D It should all click into place now what I said. My bad lol.

Greetings,
Your right, leave most of the stupidly over priced games alone as it's all a MYTH why they are priced like they are. Panzer Dragoon Saga is a prime example of play it once, forever collect du$t and not worth the asking price when you would get more hours out of Sega Rally.
Shinobi X is a nice game, a must for Shinobi fans but in truth it's not the best in the series. That title goes to the original Shinobi and can be found on XBOX 360 Marketplace or on SEGA Mega Drive: Ultimate Collection for 360 & PS3 when you complete Shinobi 3 level 1 without being killed.
If you have not seen it, have a 360 or PS3 then 1987 Shinobi is kick arse and should keep you busy till you can get hold of Shinobi X (PAL - contains unique sound track done by Richard Jacques).

Greating jeremygts. Hunt down a backup memory cartridge. Internal memory will not last long before it's full, a handful of games depending on save file size to fill it up. Some titles like Sega Rally take full advantage of a backup memory cart to save ghost data and your Saturn will love you even more for it once you start getting a little collection going. Enjoy your Saturn!

Yeah that is awesome! Nice work on the cab! How cool would it be to have a combined Saturn & Multi-Mega setup in one of these!

A Sega Saturn will run all day long with-out the battery! Every time you turn it on just set the clock and date, sorted. The internal save memory will always work when powered on. If you don't mind losing data then do it now! The start buttons can get sticky and dirty as it's a tight fit and made of rubber, take apart and clean or give it an extra hard press to see if it really does work. Button R & L are micro switches...um. Make sure the end connection is ok, does it move up or down while connected to the Saturn. Any sign of it being broken and stuck back together? Move connection slightly up or down when connected to Saturn just in case it's a bad wire. It may also be a dirty contact between the Saturn and the pad... There may even be a broken wire in the pads cord it's self, bend pad wire next to pad it's self up or down just in case. But for now you can take the battery out and try. PS. Always handy to get another pad if possible for these types of strange goings on's.

This may not help at all before you read on... so sorry if it's time wasting. but yes it would be a button making a connection to complete an electrical circuit and that's it. Anything is possible. I think most people would leave your nice stick as is... Do they do USB to Saturn adapters? I mean you can do it around the other way and use real Saturn pads on XBOX1 & PC's. That way you could look at another stick already made for the job, tho I know you said you like the feel of the stick it's self. It might lend it's self to setup a newer Hori stick from xbox 360 to be tampered with instead but I know from looking they are a bit cheap on the inside. Hori's might look like the old DC stick but the DC stick is quality built! I know nothing about these but imagine this if you had the space for this all singing and dancing SS Stick. Looks like it has potential to allow stick and button changes, it's big enough. Link: ebay.co.uk

Hi elvis, We may of bumped in to each other, may of even talked but none the wiser on names or faces even. I can't remember if it was Earls Court and Olympia when Sega first showed off it's Sega 32X for the 1st time, might of been Sept 94. You had to go up these stairs to a massive platform where they had Doom & Virtua Racing Deluxe running. It might of been another add-on for a Sega machine but those were good times lol. A number of years later when Sega did a one off by using The Empire in Leicester Square for the Dreamcast Premiere... I was there with my Bro first in line to get in after seeing & playing MSR down the road at another show that very day and I got chatting to some guy working for Sega going on about using Amiga's still to do some of the Dreamcast games for menu's and stuff. One of your bosses later invited us as we got chatting in to the press only area where you had Quake 3 running on a 4way link up using the 1st ever DC mouse which looked like a Mac mouse. Still have the ticket for getting in and the old Press Pack CD with artwork, (proper DC covers) of games of that moment inc stuff that never came out like Blank'n'white & Half Life. Best moment of the DC Premiere was seeing the Hornet from Daytona USA roll a cross the screen for the first time, a world first and the whole place went mental crazy over it!!! ;D I remember Trocadero Sega World and it's big 8 player link-up with camera's Datyona USA. I kept winning for about an hour un-defeated, (winner stays on) and I begged for the operator to put Sea Side Street Galaxy on and they kept saying NO haha! 3 or 4 floors of Sega Arcade gaming goodness!! Sega Park is still running just... here in Southampton but as we know it's not really Sega. I once bumped in to Ben Gunstone down here as he lives up the road if you remember him and had a good chat about all things OutRun and a whole lot more he should of never told me. So yeah, if you remember any of that or were part of then cool. Hey, do we blame you for Saturn DOOM as you guys are credited for help and support during production?? Haha! Joking and taking the mickey, what was done was done and too late to worry about that now. Big fan of Sega me self starting when I came face to face with OutRun 1986 the arcade machine. I skipped the Master System as it was easier to pay 10 or 30p per play on the real machines back then. Once the MegaDrive was released tho I never shopped. Even hunted down a pre MegaDrive arcade machine before it launched if you can remember that haha! Yes I'm a no body, but have done a lot of miles and it's been good fun. Nice to see you any way. Cheers, Mike

Just in case... A lot of old MegaDrive carts can play up, they may not even work but really they do and can be sorted easily. Worth a go just in case it's the very thing you have. The GOLD pin's on the cart it's self that connects the cart to the MegaDrive/Saturn are like magnet's to dust and grease. When they warm up from being used they attract the dust and dirt in the air and cover them with a film of crap. Of course being taken in & out time and time again allows the dust in, add a good number of years later... What I do and I do have a proper Megadrive cart opener tool which makes it easier is use Windolene Glass cleaner that removes the grease film you can't see, the stuff you would use to wipe down an old CRT TV screen, glass coffee tables or window's at home ect... Spray a small drop on to a bit of kitchen roll and wipe the pins a long, should see the area of the kitchen roll turn slightly black having now removed the grease off it. Can't go wrong with windolene spray as it dries off very quickly too. Try that just in case before dropping the idea of using it. Hope that helps.
