Yeah, it's also got a weird scrolling issue (camera tracks down if your ship flies to the bottom of the screen) and does away with the cool-looking seamless stage transitions. I'd recommend either playing it in MAME or grabbing the Taito Legends 2 collection. They were responsible for a lot of garbage on the Saturn. Quiz games, TV-license games, idol games, etc. The more noteworthy stuff: Mechanical Violator Hakaider - A light gun shooter. On about the same level as Crypt Killer... The Unsolved - An adventure game that I think was meant to be some sort of X-Files parody. Uses American actors and everything. Cutscenes are in English but the actual game itself is Japanese. JSWAT - Hilariously bad FPS. Your field of view in narrowed down to a tiny rectangle "meant" to mimic your sightline from a helmet. What, no mention of Omakase Savers? Oh right, the one with the live action magical girls.

I never knew we got Gekirindan in english! PS2, Xbox, and PC. The PS2 version has a few games the others don't and vice versa: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taito_Legends_2

It's not a particularly good port. Taito handed it off to a company called JAMP rather than doing it themselves or giving it to the always reliable VING. haha yes, you can tell they didn't take to much care of it. It'll pause itself to load new enemies every here and there. I put this in last night and I can't find any option settings to change that. I looked up posts on this game at Shmups.system11.org and they also mention the lack of saving. As far as the game goes, I've always thought it was just ok. Not bad. A bit of slowdown. But nothing spectacular either. It's not a particularly good port. Taito handed it off to a company called JAMP rather than doing it themselves or giving it to the always reliable VING.

There was a late model 2 Korean unit that looked like that actually, but it had a white logo (with red decal on the middle "S") and it was a model 2. The Kama Saturn:

Probably an unpopular opinion, but there were not 'enough' FPS titles imo. Sure, we had Exhumed, Duke & Quake - plus a dodgy port of Doom and a Hexen too, but overall... not a particularly astounding amount, I feel. Also, some more run n gun titles (i.e. Metal Slug) would have been nice too. Could have probably got MS2 & MSX out on Saturn, not to mention a 'proper' Contra and a Gunstar Heroes sequel etc... You forgot the premiere Saturn FPS, JSWAT.

Thank you very much. I was surprised by how fast the responses were. I found the game to be unplayable with the SSF. 0.10 beta R1 version and am working on getting it going with the m2emulator, which looks promising. Currently figuring out how to turn my CD into a "rom", I'm going to try using my virtual CD drive program and see if that does it. Thanks again for your help - I'll let you know when I get it working! The m2emulator plays Model 2 arcade games, not Saturn titles. You need a VC2 arcade ROM.

Hello, I am new to using SSF and have been trying to get Virtua Cop to work with a mouse. I have found that the SSF_012_alpha seems to work best, but I am still having problems with the aim reticle creeping off to the sides and I have to memorize where to put the mouse on the screen at the start of training (haven't tried the levels yet, just testing with the targets so far) so that the reticle "attaches" right under the mouse instead of far to the side of it (which can lead to clicking off the screen).
Also, I have been trying to figure out how to enable full screen mode.
Thank you all ahead of time for your help. I'd recommend just playing the arcade game using the m2emulator with RamjetM2Borderless. Once you've got that stuff installed, open EMULATOR.INI in a notepad document and change "DrawCross=0" to "DrawCross=1". Then launch the emulator, hit F2 to bring up the service menu and follow the instructions in the video below to calibrate your sights properly:

I'm surprised the emulation scene hasn't progressed to the point that you can alter the internal resolution of the original game. Would be amazing to see the Panzer Dragoon games running in HD with bilinear filtering and anti-aliasing. Many of these old Saturn games have good-looking geometry that would look still look great at high resolutions. Ironically, you named the only games that can run well when internally upscaled. I'll record some video for you guys. I think you'll be surprised. Edit: Well, scratch that. I did have Zwei running at 60 FPS a few months ago, but now it won't work for me. Whatever, this guy was able to cap footage:

So does anyone know of a good USB adapter (no lag) that supports not only the saturn gamepads, but the 3D controller, driving wheel etc? I know amazon has this one as well as this one (which I own) but neither of them support anything beyond the gamepad. Recently I stumbled across this, the Raphnet adapter which seems the most promising so far. Are there any others? I'd recommend the Raphnet adapter. It supports all of the peripherals mentioned on the website, including the 3D pad (works great with NiGHTS HD too). As for the wheel, inputs respond as they should within Windows, but SSF crashes when you try to use the wheel with it. Just be careful with how you handle and store the adapter. The only thing protecting the circuit board is a flimsy piece of rubberized plastic. The MayFlash adapter you linked to on Amazon is fairly decent. It's cheaper than the Raphnet one, has two controller ports, and all the vital components are protected by a sturdy plastic case. I own a variant that I found on eBay which boasts compatibility with the 3D pad, but this isn't exactly true. Stick input works correctly, but the adapter wasn't designed to accept analog input from the triggers, making it useless for racing games (and NiGHTS if you like to exploit the stunt ribbon glitch). If you only plan on using digital controllers, it's still a good adapter though.

Yea I've always thought so, there's a lot that's playable in it but little that's 100%. It seems to have a LOT of issues with anything using FMV. Makes me wish Shima would make SSF open source. Pretty sure he could retain the commercial rights to anything derived from his code if he did that.

Yea I'm aware of it's compatibility issues, I think it got itself a bad name for that over the years, but that last version they released was a giant leap in the right direction, I hope someone is pushing on with it. The compatibility list on their site is really a joke. The only game that I've been able to get running almost perfectly has been PD Zwei, and I had to revert back to an older revision to do it. Yabause is a long, long way off from being practical. That said, I do hope they keep at it. Their emulator actually has better long term potential than SSF.

I've not experienced that before, but then I can't even get the latest version of SSF to run properly on either my new laptop or my workstation, I'm still on 010betaR1 which runs perfectly on both. Was this happening with all versions? You're right. This does appear to be a problem that cropped up somewhere in later versions. I tried using 0.10 beta R1 and never had an issue.
