Die Hard Arcade is indeed one of the best looking polygon games on the Saturn as well. Its an incredible Arcade conversion. It likely has something to do with developing the game side by side the Arcade version. The game is a fantastic beat em up. And you are correct. Once you know the moves it becomes super fun, almost like a fighting game rolled into it. My brother and I used to play it in the actual Arcade a bunch growing up. Wasnt until I got the Saturn release that we finally beat it. I also second you on Fighting Force. Fun game but DHA hands down. Im not even upset that FF for Sat was cancelled.

Tomb Raider is oddly a game didnt like back when it came out but played it last year and loved it (Saturn version). You just have to adjust to the controls. Perfectly fine. Nowhere near a bad game.
My first experience with Daytona USA was with the 3 free games pack. I liked it alot. No problems at all. CCE is good too. There are purists from the arcade here but to me its fine. I hear the JPN version is the best but part of me wonders if the Netlink Edition released only in the US is the same as the JPN 3rd release.

So I took a break from Shining Force III today and popped in Shinobi Legions/X for the first time ever. Always remember the game for its digitized graphics (which can be bad to some). I was blown away how much I really liked the first couple levels. The game runs so smooth. Lots of different moves for your character. Love the defensive moves as well as the specials. The FMV cut scenes are great, feels like an old Kung Fu film Surprised I waited this long to play Shinobi. Also kinda think it doesnt get enough talk among Saturners. Ill have to play more later on though.

Ok....... UMK3, VIRTUAL ON and RESIDENT EVIL where nominated in another old thread as THE WORST GAMES ON THE CONSOLE ............. WTF IS GOING ON? Like Mik said its all opinions and very subjective. I think this is why the retro community is normally so negative across the web, we take other peoples opinions too personally. UMK3, Virtual On and Res Evil are probably 3 of the best games on the entire console to some (like you and I) but to others its ugly. Area 51 is one of my favorite arcade conversions ever and some people put it at the bottom. Contra Legacy of War is hated on pretty hard... again another one of my favorite titles on the system. Sonic R... also one of my top 20 Saturn games... list goes on. Congo is another. Like what you like, who cares what other people say. Some of us like games simply because of nostalgia or we got it for Xmas or something. These are things that can't be expressed to others.

I still need to replay this and try to get everyone. I heard Yuji Naka is one of the people to rescue I popped it in for a brief play last week to see how it looked on my Scart to HDMI upscaler. I couldnt believe how colorful it looked. It even smoothed out the polygons a bit. It certainly made it look even better.

On topic, I totally agree with linkt101. The game is so well made it holds up to games today. What it really comes down to is pacing, production value, and length. The game is short, sweet, and story centric. In other words, just like games are today. The combat system is obviously very well done, but the combat wasn't -over- done. It was never a chore and you never felt like you were forced to level grind. It always stayed fresh as the combat was mixed with exploration and cut scenes. And gee, was that game gorgeous! Absolutely stunning for Saturn, a true achievement. I agree that it would be a good candidate for a remake without losing anything. Ive always said PDS is sorta the perfect blend of everything for everyone. Its not too much or too little of anything. Before finally playing it maaany years ago I had always wondered if it was simply rare and thats all people cared about. But after playing it you feel all the little things that made it special. Truly a game with the same wow factor as a FF7. It pretty awesome that the Saturn had this game. Had it been like Shenmue where production was stopped and moved to the Dreamcast, it wouldnt have felt the same. Its awesome the Saturn had more or less the entire series from start to finish. As for the graphics, unreal I agree. I always cared alot back in 97-98 about the Saturn doing polygon games. Loved seeing the system was finally pushing alot of 3D games at the end. And PDS is pretty much the crowning jewel of all of that. Had Burning Rangers been 100% finished, or given the same amount of time of a PDS, that game would have been likely tied in the visual achievement department. PDS, even though it had a similar art style as the first 2 games, it had alot of color in it. I plan to run through all 3 games again in order at some point soon.

As odd as it sounds I dont care about the actual ending. Its fine. The way that the story moves for 99% of the game is perfect and the final battle is so amazing. Those are the things at least to me that matter.

'Sup Rick! Wait, there's a SS game called "Chaos Control"? That's both hilarious & amazing. I just spotted that too! Thought I new I all the UK/US release but that one I had never seen. I watched some gameplay on Youtube. Its looks pretty bad but it has an interesting graphic style.

I got PDS for $150 CIB not too long ago (a year or two). I probably wouldn't have bought it had I not found it for that "cheap". Decent story, GREAT battle system, but the ending kinda sucked. I just wish they used that battle system again. Love that. No spoilers in my post just in case. The battle system makes the game. Its so wonderful and fun. I just loved getting into battles. The berserk effects and really any effects during battles were amazing. Even the most routine enemy encounters were exciting. The graphics including the HUD were so colorful and well done. The story took me probably an entire disc to get into but there was one meet up with a character that turned the entire game around for me. Ive mentioned it a couple times but I actually used a walkthru for 1 spot. Its not a game you need one but I remember flying around for ever. I ended up reading a spoiler for what happened next during that and it devastated me for some reason. It was near the middle of the game so I recovered and loved the rest. As for the ending I need to play it again to remember 100% about it as it was many years ago. But I absolutely loved the final battle(s). It felt so epic and emotional for your character. I always felt that because your vehicle is a live creature/animal you end up becoming so much more attached to it in your journey.

Horde is another one of those games that I passed over at Blockbuster thinking it looked awful. Although Ive heard very decent things. Might be due for another try. Astal was the other game Id pass over at BB all the time, even if there was nothing else to rent. You still have Blockbusters?! And they have Saturn games?! I figured the past tense would give you good idea I was referring to 1997ish Back in 96-97 when I had only a Saturn, Blockbuster Video had a horrid selection and never really updated it. Although like I said games I considered awful back then I love now. Astal as I mentioned I wouldnt even consider renting but now its a gem of the system. I would rent Tomb Raider for Saturn and get bored but last year after beating the 360 one, I ran through the entire Saturn version and loved it. I used to tell my friend at school that Sony was paying off BB to have more of their games for rent I swear for about the last year they had maybe 12 titles for Saturn in a small area. And the entire 1997 they may have added 1-2. One was definitely Fighters Megamix I remember. I think Sega worked a deal to have that for rent early. The other was either Duke3D (which I owned) or 1-2 sports games. The games I remember renting back then were Shellshock, Black Dawn, Robotica, Thunder Strike II, Tomb Raider, Corpse Killer (lol), Soviet Strike maybe. So ya it was pretty bad. Most of those helicopter/plane shooter games were popular and well reviewed, just not my bag. Tomb Raider was probably the only good thing I rented. But again I passed over renting Fighters Megamix, Panzer Dragoon, Astal even Nights until my friend bought it, and I think I even passed over Gallactic Attack.

Definitely sad for the masses who want to play it. $150-$200 US was a steep price years ago but it felt fair. You didn't feel like you'd have to give up eating for a month. Now at around $400 there is almost too much weight on the game itself Although when people ask me about the game and its worth, I tell them if they have the $ just buy it. Its a transcendent game. Very few people dislike it, chances are youll be blown away. It was literally the first RPG I ever beat back when I played it and I loved it (I even spoiled an event in the middle of the game by looking at a walkthru)Says alot. And if its not your bag you will have no problem selling it off and recouping the $$ within a day.

and not much talk about it. Its literally all anyone here talks about lol At least as far as top 5 lists go. I think it was the message boards #1 overall game. It is such a good game that I took it for granted owning it back in the day. Just shrugged it off as Sports title probably... although I remember playing it endlessly and never complaining about it on Saturn.
