Yeah I think I'm at that point. I've just beaten the first level of Egypt. I don't hate the game but it's packed full of bullshit. The platforming is terrible as the game's controls are very hit and miss.
I will see it through to the end though.

I'm working my way through Tomb Raider. Very slowly. Didn't realize the game was so long!

Well I've played the game a load in the past so I kinda know what to do and where to go, but I kinda want to go for 100% item completion, so translation would help! Also I'll probably need it for the Maria controls as that would be new to me. She was awesome in Rondo so looking forward to that! I'm not sure what this XRGB is you're talking about so I probably don't have it. But yeah I'll probably pick this up. With a 100% completion run, and beating the game with Richter (again) and Maria, this will probably last me a while

Back on topic to CV, is there a way to unlock Maria (like with Richter) or is she selectable from the start?
Also, does anyone know of a useful translation guide for the weapons and whatnot? Gamefaqs doesn't have one and can't seem to see anything else.
I have the hankering to play some 'vania and it has been quite a while since I played SOTN!

Well I looked at a video and that strafe jumping makes you move pretty fast. I'll get used to doing that for the faster times. It also means that I don't need to invest in a 3D controller

Ah really? That's pretty cool. I might have a look into speedruns of the games for additional techniques. One question though (if you or anyone else knows), is the level exactly the same on a first playthrough? I know the game randomises after you beat it, but I assume that if I started a new game file then the level would be the same as the first time I played? It'll be easier to do it faster if the route is always the same

OK, so I have just beaten the game and thought I'd share a few thoughts.
Personally, I think the game was fantastic. It was really fun, with a nice story (loved the anime cutscenes) and addictive gameplay. The main story is short, but it is no different to something like Die Hard Arcade. BR feels very arcadey, and seems designed on replayability. More levels would have been appreciated, but I think the existing levels are all very fun and varied to enjoy multiple times. Especially as there are 108 survivors and S rankings to chase.
The audio is fantastic, with great music, effects and voice acting. Tillis has some iffy voice acting, but I think the character is cool so I can let it slide! The graphics are generally really good for the most part. The main characters and the environments are detailed, if a little too pixilated. For a Saturn game though, they generally look good. The survivors, however, lack a lot of detail and their character models are very basic. Considering how many there are and how little they appear on screen, it doesn't detract too much. Some of the graphical glitching though is a bit off putting, although it only really caused a problem for me on the final mission underwater. I had no idea where to go and kept thinking that I saw a tunnel...... it was just a missing texture :/
One thing I am confused about is why people dislike the third mission? It's probably my second favourite (at the moment). Those big robots are annoying to avoid, and the spaceship walls exploding can be a pain when you don't expect them, but other than that I really like it. The second stage is probably my favourite, although I am really bad at fighting that boss. For me, that boss is the hardest one in the game.
One final note is that I played with the standard controller and not the 3D controller. I encountered very few problems. I have no doubt that the 3D controller is better, especially if you are going for faster times, but I didn't have many issues. The ascent near the end of the final stage would have been much easier with a 3D controller, as I would have had more confidence with skipping sections of it, but it was still easy. The platforms all turn at right angles, so I just shifted the camera and then always walked up on the dpad.
So there we go. I'll write a proper review soon, but just thought I would splat some of my thoughts in this topic. BR is definitely one of my favourite games from my current collection. It's probably worth the PAL asking price if you find the game replayable, but the NTSC price is probably too much!

Thanks, I'll try that. I tried double tapping but stopped when it didn't seem to do anything. I'll try holding it down and maybe he takes a moment to accelerate. Thanks for the advice for the prone dudes. They really irritate me!

My copy of DHA arrived today! It's pretty decent but I have a few questions, which may make the game slightly easier 1) Is there a way to run? The manual mentions attacks you can do when running, but the dude always moves slowly. I figured double tapping the direction would work. It didn't. 2) Some enemies lay on the ground and shoot you. Is there anything you can do except wait for them to stand up? Thanks! EDIT: Removed the final question. For some reason Deep Scan was acting up when I first tried. The Extend counter had 0 on it. After rebooting the game it then showed that continues were earned after 50,100,200 points. No idea what happened before. Great game. Did it in 10 continues, although most of them were on the final boss. Dat knife

Ooooooooooooo, I've heard of that. How is it? Is it even close to playable without Japanese knowledge. I love Eno's games so would love to get it if there is any chance of it being playable

Well, I don't have a PS2 but I think I have a lot of the main games on my Everdrive 64 / Mega Everdrive anyway. Once I pick up Silhouette Mirage and Guardian Heroes, I think I'm pretty much sorted for Treasure games
