you have to compromise to some extent of course. but your wife also works? She does. As I said above, I could probably afford the collection over a period of time. And I'd certainly enjoy collecting it and seeing the finished article- it wouldn't be about showing it off as not many people I know are at all interested in video games. I suppose the main barrier is the time and effort it will take me, compared to what else I could do with my family with that time and effort, that's the real crux of why I don't collect the whole lot. That and space. On the other hand, I could buy the whole lot on eBay over the course of a couple of weeks on credit card, but I can't see that being very fulfilling. Being honest, after the initial fun and buzz of collecting it all, the novelty would probably wear off eventually- as NeoGeoNinja said earlier, I'd end up with perhaps 100 crap games I'd never play anyway.

If I knew my wife wouldn't kill me, I'd be very tempted to do a complete set. I'm with DTSS here! I'd make my own, not buy it from someone else, using bundles and markets rather than eBay, initially at least. I'm a fairly level headed person normally, but I do have a little obsessive trait deep down somewhere that would LOVE the whole lot on a shelf. I could probably afford it now over the course of a couple of years. Hell I bet half of us on here lose a couple of grand a year on car depreciation, and Saturn games hold their value much better! But due to space and time constraints I'm sticking just to games I'll play and enjoy, plus the odd rarity I come across. what does your wife have to do with your collection? Two young kids to provide for and spend time with, limited space at home and shall we say differing views on a) spending weekends looking round game shops and charity shops and b) the pleasure of playing hours of video games. Not that I don't spend some time on that, i do, but I think in a marriage you have to compromise, right?

Hell I bet half of us on here lose a couple of grand a year on car depreciation. Depends on where you come in on owning a car, my last car actually gained a few £££'s during my ownership...well, until I crashed it at least.
Games seem to be a sound investment at the moment but there's no guarantee it will last but most of us probably don't care about it's value in say 10 years.
Yes but unless you've either bought scrap or a classic, a car will lose value, same as an off the shelf new game. I suppose you're right that most people don't look at Retro games as an investment, rather a hobby- as do I. But personally I'm much happier spending £50 on a Saturn game that I'm confident of reselling for around or more than that price once I've finished with it, compared to the same amount on a current PS4 release that will definitely be worth half that in matter of months, and probably £5 tops in a couple of years. Notwithstanding a subsequent rise in perhaps a decade for a few classic/rare games. I guess Saturn games will hit a peak at some point, but I bet we're not there yet- just look at the value of the slightly older games like PC Engine and SNES, from what I can see they continue to climb.

Plenty of gaming lately, trying games that are new to me or haven't played for yonks.
Dracula X- still not far into it, but enjoying it so far. Lovely attention to detail and very responsive controls for a platformer. Struggling a bit with the inventory in Japanese but will persevere.
Wipeout 2097- yep, just as difficult as I remember! (Having played 1 and 3 on the PlayStation). But I'm just about doing a good lap on the easiest two courses. Lovely sensation of speed when you finally get into those racing lines. Works well with the analogue controller.
Radiant Silvergun- I'm hooked. So impressed with this game. Won't go on as there is so much already written about it.
Outrun (Sega Ages). Harder than I remember! They don't make em like this anymore.
Pandemonium- only just started but really like the controls and the 2.5D movement.

I checked up on this game last year and hesitated on buying it, assuming it would still be eighty bucks when I got it later. How much is it now? Oh, you know, FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. What the hell happened? Did people finally notice this was an actual good game and decided to be jerks and skyrocket the price? Man, I know the menus are easier to navigate for most in English, but if it were not for my somewhat knowledge of basic Japanese, I would be having some heavy difficulties navigating the menus in this game. So, I sprung out and just imported instead, as I probably get a truer version of the game that way anyway. Though, it is strange that it is not called "Bomberman" on the cover, as I believe he has a different name in Japan. But, how did the price shoot up so much? I truly do not understand this. I can't see any US versions on EBay to corroborate, but perhaps go for a PAL copy which sell for about £40-50 GBP.

Picked up Wipeout 2097 and Pandemonium! at my local retro game seller, today.
Used to dislike Wipeout games as they were too hard to control, but am going to give it another go. Pandemonium looks a bit of fun too.
Quite nice to come across some games I hadn't played that weren't sports titles!

You've been going to the wrong pubs mate But that game's a lot of fun, plenty of button bashing. Was quite impressed with the bobsleigh actually.

The UK PAL system will run fine across the EU and presumably Finland. we have 220-240 voltage in the UK.

Picked up Mass Destruction not long ago and just finished having a game. What a little gem this one is! Just a really fun game to play. Tidy gameplay and controls, love the missions and variety of weapons. Heat seeking missiles/flame thrower, brilliant. Anyone who doesn't have this game, I don't belive its an expensive title, I really recommend picking it up! Been meaning to pick up a copy of this for a while. Loved it back when it was released. Good old blow-em-up fun. (not the doll type, i might add) Sounds funny in the days of photo-realistic graphics, but I remember being really impressed with the flame reflections and the bullet spray in the water!

Have been revisiting Quake, Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Nights.
All three leave me with that hard-to-define joyous gaming buzz that for me hasn't been bettered over the years, despite better graphics.
In my view the only thing that feels at all dated across them is the bar at the bottom of the screen in Quake where the ammo and health data are a bit too low res.

Nah, it's dirt cheap on either system. The Saturn version is still a fun game, just suffers from slowdown a lot.

Interesting. Usually they go for more. This is an example of my tip in the Real World thread, that you can get bargains in eBay if you are willing to buy from sellers with poor photos and sparse descriptions. Those pictures aren't that bad in all honesty. I think it was more to do with the fact that the seller pretty much shot him/her self in the foot by only shipping to the UK. If you are a UK Saturn buyer, chances are you already have Deep Fear. I would think there would be higher demand for the game from buyers outside the UK. Fair point about limiting his market, yes.
