I'd prefer it if articles like that didn't exist, nothing good will come from educating the average person about the perceived value of old tech.

What's the new digital standard over there now? are hd signals at 60hz? Yeah it's been that way for a while, pretty much since the HDMI standard come about. HDTVs typically accept both 50hz and 60hz signals, 50hz would still be relevant for SD sources up to 576. Truth be told, i've never really paid much attention to it since the PS3 was released.

Speak for yourself, I don't know many gamers in Europe that, once enlightened into the world of 60hz gaming, didn't switch over to playing mostly 60hz titles and just keeping the PAL ones as collectors items. Except on platforms like Amiga of course where many releases were PAL exclusive. This, like 100% Well more like 99.9% but yeah, 60Hz all the way.

PAL copy of VF2 runs really fast at 60hz if you need something to test. The intro video will also run out of sync with the music.

Best starting character is probably Wein if memory serves me right. Make sure you have the unit +/- sheet to hand, it's at the back of the manual. Part of winning is knowing which units you should be putting into battle. The sooner you can find dragons the better, I think they are only weak against one other unit. Also buff the shit out of your main general, the final battle is 1vs1 and it will come down to having a strong general. Have you put the CD into a PC yet? There's a .txt file with a little message for you where you should prepare to lose a month of your life playing the game.

Open the pad up:
Clean the black carbon pads (rub them against paper if shiny) Clean the contacts on the PCB (use IPA or something similar)
May help, has worked on several pads for me in the past.

That cap is fine, the thing at the bottom is only glue. If it was blown, it would have its top puffed up from the inside. Check the two ICs screwed onto the plates. The blown one is probably the TOP202. edit: if some component popped audibly and gave off smoke, then there should be significant scorch marks on the PCB. You say the smoke came off from below the cd, so it might not be the PSU that died but something else on the board. Have you tried disassembling it in search of scorch marks? Do you have a multimeter? You could check the voltage levels to see of the PSU still works, just set it to voltage measurement and put one scope to the 0v output and the other scope on the other outputs of the PSU. Be careful so you don't cause a short. The voltages on the PSU should read, from bottom to top, 0v, 0v, 3.3v, 5v, 9v. Haha oh shit yeah, now that you've mentioned it and I've taken a closer look it's just glue. I saw the gunk and thought that had popped for sure.

Check the rating on that blown cap, it's a £1 part if that. Shame you don't have an iron, very quick fix. I have a Saturn that I could do with getting rid of but transplanting PSUs isn't something i'm familiar with so have no idea regarding compatibility: Worth adding that the Saturn is faulty as in it would play fine for about 10 minutes, then the disc would stop spinning. I meant to get around to fixing it but pulled the spindle to fix a Neo Geo CD instead. So it would be priced for parts rather than a fully working unit.

And I told you I didn't have a multimeter. They're so damn cheap and come in so handy, I'd much rather buy one than run the risk of killing a console, you were exceptionally lucky there. This! Lol

Only consoles I've had sync issues with are the PC Engine Duo and the Master System. I use a JPN SNES so not entirely sure if that makes a difference but I know the cables are wired differently.

That adapter is slight overkill, you can buy the passive adapter from the same site (£7.99) and that will work fine for the majority of what you want to use or rewire the one that comes with the Framemeister like atolm mentioned.
For Scart cables, that site you linked is pretty good but in all honesty the cables that eBay seller thefoo.83 puts out are top notch. He has a few mentions on the forums here and Buckoa51 has also reviewed them on his site.
To date I've bought ones for the Saturn, Megadrive (with 3.5 audio breakout), SNES and Neo Geo. All work perfectly with the Framemeister.

I'm presently rocking my new Action Replay and also have the Sega memory cart. My problem with the action replay is that i have only been able to use it as a memory bank and am unable access it during gameplay. I am playing imports right now and am only able to save to the internal memory due to the cartage slot being taken by the AR. I wonder if sending it off to be repaired would cover this? I wonder what the average life span is for a regular Saturn player? If i'm not mistaken you can only save directly to official memory carts. With the AR you need to save to internal, then transfer to the cart from the system menu before powering off if you have no internal battery. If there is a workaround to this, it's not something I've seen discussed lately.

Makes me think they didn't even bother to play their own game after it was ported, a shame really. " barryburton Sold it." Now selling it.

Anyone else played this on the Saturn? I figured the port would be excellent yet after a few attempts to enjoy it I'm finding the handling to be genuinely game breaking. Can practically complete both arcade games with my eyes closed yet struggle to get past the early stages on the Saturn, anyone else find the port to be a bit shite?

Looking at the prices, you'd be lucky to get it for <$100. What I find truly shocking is how much the PSX version seems to be going for I think only PAL and NTSC-J regions got the limited edition with art book etc so that's probably why the price has gone nuts. The US version goes for a lot less when they pop up.
